Dr. Jaglas Aperitif Trio – non-alcoholic. Three non-alcoholic aperitifs in a set: Herber Hibiskus, San Limello and San Pompello, 500 ml each.

Dr. Jaglas Aperitif Trio – non-alcoholic is a set of three non-alcoholic aperitifs from Berlin: Herber Hibiskus with hibiscus blossom and elderberry, San Limello with lemon and herbal distillate, San Pompello with pink grapefruit – 500 ml each in an apothecary bottle, 0.0% vol. Not a tasting sample, not a miniature, not a syrup – three full bottles, three long drinks.

Aperitif Trio by Dr. Jaglas solves the question that most people who are not yet familiar with the Berlin manufacturer get stuck on: Which variety first? The dry hibiscus, which is our most frequently ordered, the lemony Limoncello answer, or the bittersweet grapefruit? The set takes the decision out of your hands and puts all three on the shelf side-by-side – for a summer with guests, for a household where one likes it dry and the other likes it fruity, or as a gift for someone who lives alcohol-free but still wants to have something in their glass. The trio is often ordered from us.

Dry, lemony, bittersweet: three characters from one bottle shape

The three varieties share the apothecary bottle and the concept, but are clearly different in the glass. The Herber Hibiskus is deep red, dry and floral, with elderberry, rosemary, bitter orange and vanilla in the background and a subtly smoky finish – the dark, bitter variety, and with 9.6 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters, the most restrained of the three.

The San Limello is citrus-yellow and tastes of ripe lemon, backed by a distillate of ginger, thyme, honey, cinnamon, fennel and chili – Christina Jagla's non-alcoholic answer to Limoncello, sweet and sour with a touch of smoke. The San Pompello is pink and tastes of grapefruit: juicy, sour, with the bitterness of the peel and a long finish – the Paloma base for tonic and a salted rim.

All three contain sugar and natural flavoring; that is stated on the labels. If you are only looking for a dry variety, buy the hibiscus individually; the trio is for everyone who wants to try out which character suits their table.

Three bottles, three long drinks, a crate of tonic

All three are bases for long drinks; they are too concentrated when served neat. The Hibiskus Spritz goes with three parts Hibiskus, one part tonic and half a lime; the Limello Spritz with one part Limello, two parts tonic and mint; the non-alcoholic Paloma with Pompello, tonic and a salt rim on the wine glass. For those who want it festive, replace the tonic with non-alcoholic sparkling wine.

Three bottles are around 25 drinks – a summer party, a barbecue season, or a winter with an aperitif on Sundays. Goat cheese, nuts and figs go well with the hibiscus; seafood and fruit with the Limello; tacos and prawns with the Pompello. Once opened, the bottles will keep for at least eight weeks if stored in a cool, dark place, according to the manufacturer of Limello and Pompello.

Our tip: When you have guests, place all three in small glasses with tonic next to each other – a tasting where everyone finds their variety and the next order is already set.

Three aperitifs from a Berlin pharmacist family

Dr. Jaglas is a Berlin manufactory located at Choriner Straße 40, originating from a pharmacist family that has been using medieval monastery recipes, classic compendiums and herbal knowledge for decades – for high-proof elixirs in apothecary bottles and for the non-alcoholic San Aperitifs. The three varieties in the trio are the classics of this range: Hibiskus, Limello and Pompello, developed as aperitifs for the hour before a meal.

The manufactory describes its work as involving manual maceration in small quantities, certified herbal quality and slow aging; individual production steps are oriented towards the Pharmacopoea Germanica, the old German pharmacopoeia. With the San Aperitifs, this is evident in the herbal expertise behind each variety – elderberry and rosemary in the Hibiskus, ginger and thyme in the Limello, the bitterness of the grapefruit in the Pompello.

The set for beginners, for hosts and for gifting

The trio is the order for everyone who wants to get to know Dr. Jaglas without committing to one, and for hosts who regularly have guests in the summer, some of whom are driving. As a gift, three apothecary bottles in red, yellow and pink are a package that sits on the shelf and gets finished over the weeks. If you want the varieties pre-mixed, you can find Hibiskus Spritz and Limello Spritz with dealcoholized Riesling on our Dr. Jaglas page.

The trio is not suitable for everyone who only drinks one variety and finds three bottles in the fridge a burden – in that case, the single bottle is the better choice.

Hibiskus, Limello, Pompello – three non-alcoholic aperitifs from Berlin in a set, for everyone who doesn't want to decide the first time around.

Dr. Jaglas
