Bar accessories: the right glass and precise measuring
Bar accessories encompass everything that helps you serve and mix drinks, from the right glass to measuring cups. Our selection is small and practical: a digestif glass for spirits served neat and two glass helpers for mixing your own tonic from syrup. If you are building your home bar step by step, these are exactly the pieces to start with.
Why the shape of the glass changes the taste
What you taste in a spirit is largely perceived through your nose. The shape of the glass determines how the aroma collects. A straight, narrow shot glass lets it escape quickly. A glass with a bulbous body and a narrowing opening keeps it contained and directs it toward the nose.
Nosing glass and digestif glass
A nosing glass is built for exactly this effect: tulip-shaped, wide at the bottom and narrowed at the top. It is used for tasting whisky, brandy, or grain spirits; the English term "nosing" refers to smelling the glass. A digestif glass follows the same concept in a smaller format for that drink after a meal and is usually designed with a stem so that your hand doesn't warm the spirit. For liqueur, fruit brandy, or aged grain spirits, this is a better choice than a classic shot glass.
The Erlenmeyer flask in the kitchen
The Erlenmeyer flask comes from the lab and is named after the chemist Emil Erlenmeyer: conical, with a flat bottom and a narrower neck. It stands securely and is easy to swirl. At the bar, it serves as a measuring vessel and a small carafe.
Our manufacturers and their accessories
Our top seller is the 2cl glass dispenser from pHenomenal Drinks in Hamburg: a glass bulb with a natural cork that measures out exactly 2 cl of tonic or ginger syrup. The cork seals the opened syrup bottle, and the dispenser can simply remain on the bottle in the fridge. To match, there is the pHenomenal Erlenmeyer flask with a 100 ml capacity, wide neck, and scale, made of heat-resistant laboratory glass. It replaces the small tonic bottle.
The Lagerkorn digestif glass comes from the Sasse Feinbrennerei in Schöppingen in the Münsterland region and is manufactured by Ritzenhoff, Made in Germany. It is intended for the distillery's Lagerkorn as well as other spirits and liqueurs. Its shape is designed to develop the aromas, and it rings clearly when toasting.
How to use the accessories
For a tonic made from syrup, use the dispenser to fill 2 cl of tonic syrup into the flask, pour in sparkling water up to the 10 cl mark, and stir gently so the carbonation remains. Pour the finished tonic from the flask over ice or onto a gin alternative. It works the same way with ginger syrup.
Use the Erlenmeyer flask as a small carafe for still water next to the digestif glass if you want to dilute a spirit drop by drop, or use it to portion out syrup for guests who prefer to mix their own lemonade. Serve the Lagerkorn neat in the digestif glass at 17 to 21 °C, i.e., at room temperature.
Care and gift ideas
- Washing glasses: It is best to wash fine glasses by hand with a little dish soap and polish them with a lint-free cloth.
- Natural cork: Only wash the dispenser's cork with clear, warm water and let it air dry.
- Packaged: The glass dispenser comes in a custom-fit, sturdy box and, like the flask, makes for a great little gift.
Matching items from our drinks selection
The accessories are part of our drinks range. You can find the tonic and ginger syrup from pHenomenal under syrups, and gin alternatives and aperitifs for mixing under non-alcoholic spirits.
