Ölmühle Solling: cold-pressed in the Weser Uplands

In 1996, Gudrun and Werner Baensch founded Ölmühle Solling with a small press and three organic oil varieties. Today, their children Sarah and Sebastian Baensch run the family business in Boffzen on the Weser, between Hanover and Göttingen. The oil is pressed using small spindle presses at temperatures below 40°C, with heat generated only through friction. All products we carry from the mill are organic (DE-ÖKO-039), and the mill has been a partner of Naturland since 1996. According to the factsheet, the range extends from edible, seasoning, and olive oils to vinegars and coconut specialties, as well as flours, nuts, and seeds.

Oils, fats, and tasting sets

The organic black cumin oil made from Egyptian seeds is virgin, tart, and peppery, while the virgin organic coconut oil is mild with a subtle coconut note. For the hot pan, there are two deodorized exceptions: frying oil made from high-oleic sunflower seeds and extra-mild coconut fat, both neutral in taste. The popular sets, each containing five 20ml bottles, are ideal for trying them out, such as the Nutty and Kernel-Based Best-Seller Oil Tasting Pack featuring argan, pumpkin seed, and walnut oil. The "Sour Best-Sellers" offer five vinegars, including the Condimento Bianco, which is also available in a 250ml bottle.

Pesto, nuts, flour, and coconut

The walnut pesto made with their own walnut oil and the cherry tomato pesto are based on recipes by founder Werner Baensch, while the cashew pumpkin seed pesto relies on Styrian pumpkin seeds. Almonds, walnuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews are packed in screw-top jars in their natural state. The press cake from the oil extraction process is used to make partially defatted almond flour and peanut butter powder. The organic Naturland coconut milk comes from the Naturland Fair project Serendipol in Sri Lanka, supplemented by unsweetened desiccated coconut and coconut blossom sugar, the latter from small farmers on Java.
