Zero de Cologne – The non-alcoholic gin alternative

Is there such a thing as non-alcoholic gin? The clear answer is: No, there is no non-alcoholic gin. By law, gin must have a minimum alcohol content of 37.5% ABV. However, it is possible to create a drink consisting of the botanicals (ingredients) of a gin – just without the alcohol. Invented, created, and handcrafted in Cologne by the makers of the multi-gold-award-winning Gin de Cologne. The Zero de Cologne gin alternative contains no sugar, no artificial flavors, and 0.0% ABV.

In terms of taste, Zero de Cologne Rosé with tonic is "fruity-berry-tangy-refreshing".

Gin de Cologne

Ein Gin, der nach Köln schmecken soll

Hinter Gin de Cologne steht kein Spirituosenkonzern, sondern Abbass Khatami, der mit seiner Werbeagentur jahrelang Getränkemarken betreut hat. 2017 gründete er die Cologne Spirits GmbH und brachte einen Gin heraus, der möglichst vielen schmecken sollte: limettig, spritzig, mild, ohne die herbe Bitterkeit, die viele an Gin abschreckt. Gebrannt wird in Handarbeit in Köln-Ehrenfeld.

Zwölf Botanicals und ein Köln-Etikett

Die Rezeptur setzt auf Schalen von Zitronen, Orangen und Limetten, Lavendel- und Hibiskusblüten und Wacholder – ein London Dry Gin mit 42 % vol. Das Etikett zeigt die Kölner Stadtsilhouette, und die 100-ml-Minis wurden ausdrücklich auch als Souvenir entwickelt: Wer Köln besucht, nimmt ein Stück davon mit nach Hause. Später kamen der Rosé mit Himbeeren, Blaubeeren und Erdbeeren, der Orange mit frischen Orangen und 2020 Zéro de Cologne ohne Alkohol dazu.
