Gin de Cologne Orange. Fruity orange gin with over 13 botanicals, 42% ABV – juicy, mild, and from Cologne-Ehrenfeld.
Gin de Cologne Orange is a fruity gin from Cologne with a focus on fresh oranges: over 13 botanicals, 42% ABV, 500 ml. Handcrafted in Cologne-Ehrenfeld, lime-zesty, juicy-fruity, and mild. Contains coloring.
An orange gin is a gin in which the orange plays the lead role among the botanicals. In the case of Gin de Cologne Orange, it is fresh oranges that set the tone. By law, a gin requires at least 37.5% ABV; this one has 42% ABV. It was introduced in 2020, supplementing the classic with a variety for summer evenings: ice, tonic, and half an orange on the table, and the drink is ready in a minute.
Taste: juicy-fruity, zesty, and mild
The manufacturer describes the Orange as mild, juicy-fruity, summery, zesty, and subtle. With tonic, it tastes “lime-zesty-refreshing,” because the citrus backbone of the Gin de Cologne is preserved. Over 13 botanicals are behind it, with a focus on fresh oranges.
The orange provides the fruity note, while the rest of the set provides the structure. The result is a gin that is easy to drink while remaining recognizable as a gin. With 42% ABV, it has enough strength for a long drink. Neat and well-chilled, it is suitable for those who want to taste how much orange is in the glass before adding the tonic.
One note to add: the Orange contains coloring.
Usage: Orange Gin Tonic with an orange slice and three ice cubes
The manufacturer's recipe for the summer drink: 4 cl gin, 16 cl Mediterranean tonic water, an orange slice, and three ice cubes. The ratio is 1:4. First, add the ice to a large glass, then the gin, then the tonic slowly along a spoon. Add the slice last and stir briefly so the carbonation is preserved. 500 ml gives you around twelve drinks.
For an Orange Spritz, mix 4 cl gin with 10 cl dry sparkling wine and a splash of soda water, and garnish with an orange slice. With a strip of orange peel and some ice, the gin also works as a base for a Gin Sour: 5 cl gin, 2 cl lemon juice, 1.5 cl sugar syrup, shake vigorously. If you prefer it lighter, use less gin and more tonic. The Orange Gin has 42% ABV and belongs in the hands of adults aged 18 and over.
Our tip: Twist the orange peel over the glass before dropping it in. The oils from the peel will settle on the surface and give the first sip more fragrance.
Origin: Cologne craftsmanship since 2017, orange gin since 2020
Cologne Spirits GmbH is based in Cologne, at Bonner Straße 205. It was founded in 2017 by Abbass Khatami; he previously ran an advertising agency that worked for beverage brands. The gin is handcrafted in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. The Orange variety was added in 2020. The classic has over 12 botanicals, the berry-forward Rosé has 15, and the Orange has over 13.
The brand's 100 ml minis are intended as Cologne souvenirs, and the Orange is available in this size as well. A sip of Cologne in orange, if you will, for the desk or your carry-on luggage.
For whom: orange fans, summer guests, and gin gifters
The Orange is for anyone looking for a fruity, mild gin for the summer who prefers orange over berries. It suits a barbecue party, an aperitif on the balcony, and as a gift for people who enjoy drinking gin and tonic. A bottle with an orange slice in the glass also stands out at bachelor parties or garden parties. If you want to try it first, take the Orange Mini with 100 ml. If you like it classic lemon-lime, choose the London Dry Gin; for a berry note, go with the Rosé. The other varieties are also available on the Gin de Cologne page.
The Orange is not suitable for anyone looking for a dry gin or a gin without coloring. For the former group, the classic with juniper in the foreground remains the choice. Those who do not drink alcohol can find the Zero de Cologne with 0.0% ABV.
