STILVOL. Frucht-Williams Golden Pear. Williams pear spirit with infused pears – golden, slightly sweet and mild, 36% ABV.
STILVOL. Frucht-Williams Golden Pear is a Williams Christ pear brandy in which hand-cut pears are steeped for many months, with 36% ABV in a 500 ml bottle. It is distilled in a small distillery in Baden-Württemberg from their own Williams Christ pears. Not a clear brandy, not a liqueur – a golden Williams with lots of fruit.
Frucht-Williams Golden Pear by STILVOL. begins as a classic Williams Christ pear brandy, as a pure pear distillate. The distiller then adds ripe, hand-cut pears and lets them steep for months. The pears impart their color, fruit sugar, and aroma to the brandy. Afterward, it has 36% ABV and over 18 grams of sugar per liter. This means it is legally classified as a spirit and is therefore no longer called a brandy. Many know this type as "Old Williams"; the name is a nod to the long maturation time of the pears.
Taste
The Golden Pear tastes intensely of ripe Williams pears, slightly sweet and pleasantly mild – STILVOL. calls this "gold in the mouth."
In the glass, it glows golden yellow; the color comes solely from the infused fruit. The pear is prominent on the nose, while the fruit sweetness comes through on the palate, rounding off the alcohol. The manufacturer writes that more pear flavor is hardly possible. Due to the fruit infusion, it is milder than a classic Williams, drinks smoothly, and remains a schnapps nonetheless. Anyone looking for a crystal-clear, dry pear brandy is in the wrong place – the Golden Pear is intentionally rounder.
Usage
You drink the Golden Pear neat at room temperature; according to STILVOL., this is how it unfolds its full aroma. A small glass is perfect after a Sunday roast.
As a drink, it fits well in a Willi Tonic: ice in a tumbler, 4 cl Golden Pear, plus about 160 ml tonic water. Squeeze a lemon zest over the glass so that the oils from the peel coat the glass. For the Golden Fizz, stir 4 cl with 3 cl pear juice and 2 cl lemon juice over ice. Pour the mix into a cocktail coupe, add 10 cl tonic water, and garnish with lemon balm or mint.
Shake the Golden Sour with 4 cl Golden Pear, 4 cl lemon juice, 2 teaspoons sugar syrup, and one egg white with ice. Shake vigorously until the foam is firm. Then strain over fresh ice into a long drink glass, with a lemon or orange zest.
Our tip: Serve the Golden Pear for dessert alongside a pear cake or a Poire Belle Hélène. Fruit in the glass and on the plate go well together.
Origin
STILVOL. are four friends from Baden-Württemberg: Jessica, Markus, Danny, and Markus, village kids from Upper Swabia and Hohenlohe, now living in Laupheim and Stuttgart. They want to free Williams & Co. from grandma's cupboard and make fruit brandy socially acceptable again.
For the Golden Pear, a small-scale distiller in Baden-Württemberg harvests ripe Williams Christ pears from their own cultivation and distills them into pear brandy. They then steep ripe pears in this for several months. Every bottle is bottled, sealed, labeled, and packed by the STILVOL. team themselves, by hand. STILVOL. consciously leaves out artificial additives; the sweetness comes from the fruit.
For whom
The Golden Pear is for everyone who likes Williams but prefers it mild rather than sharp. And for people who previously thought fruit brandy was only for grandpa. At a family celebration, it is the bottle that even those who usually pass on schnapps will drink.
If you prefer it spicier, reach for the Gartenkräuter Rosemary Spirit made from German rosemary. You can find all bottles on our STILVOL. page. The spirit has 36% ABV, and sale is permitted from 18 years of age. It is not suitable for those looking for a dry, crystal-clear pear brandy – it is golden, fruity, and slightly sweet.
