STILVOL. Goldene Nuss Hazelnut Schnapps. Spirit made from caramelized hazelnuts – nutty and mild, slightly sweet, 32% ABV.
STILVOL. Goldene Nuss Hazelnut Schnapps is a spirit made from caramelized hazelnuts, handcrafted in a small distillery in Baden-Württemberg, with 32% ABV in a 500 ml bottle. Not a hazelnut liqueur, not a cream liqueur – a golden schnapps, nutty and mild.
Goldene Nuss Hazelnut Schnapps by STILVOL. is the new schnapps in the STILVOL. range. The distiller uses hazelnuts that have been caramelized beforehand. They give the schnapps its aroma, its slight sweetness, and the golden color that gives it its name. The manufacturer calls it a "spirit made from hazelnuts," and there is a reason for this: a fruit spirit (Geist) must have at least 37.5% ABV and may hardly be sweetened. The Goldene Nuss is below this at 32% ABV and tastes slightly sweet. STILVOL. therefore compares it to the Goldene Birne (Golden Pear), another mild spirit from the company.
Taste
The Goldene Nuss tastes like caramelized hazelnuts, nutty and soft, and slightly sweet, with a mild character that is pleasant to drink.
It displays a warm gold in the glass. The caramelized hazelnut comes through on the nose, while it remains soft and round on the palate. The 32% ABV is noticeable, but not overpowering. STILVOL. calls it a special schnapps with a nutty, soft aroma. Anyone expecting a sweet, syrupy hazelnut liqueur will be mistaken – the Goldene Nuss is a schnapps with a light sweetness.
Usage
You drink the Goldene Nuss neat at room temperature; according to STILVOL., that is when it unfolds its full aroma. After dinner, with an espresso, or by the fireplace, a small glass is just right.
As a cocktail, it is the star of the Golden Hazel, an Espresso Martini by Anne Matthes from the Piano Bar at the Maritim Hotel Stuttgart. Add ice to a shaker, along with 4 to 5 cl of Goldene Nuss, a fresh espresso, 2 cl of coffee liqueur, and 1 cl of sugar syrup. Shake vigorously and strain through a bar strainer into a coupette or tumbler. Garnish with hazelnut brittle or an espresso bean.
For a Nutty White Russian, pour an espresso and 4 to 5 cl of Goldene Nuss over fresh ice. Then slowly pour milk or cream over it so that patterns form. If the drink is too bitter for you, add a little sugar syrup.
It is best to store the bottle in a cool, dark place so that the nutty aroma is preserved for a long time. Schnapps has no best-before date and does not go bad once opened.
Our tip: Whisk the milk or cream for the Nutty White Russian slightly until creamy beforehand. This is also recommended by STILVOL., and it makes the drink beautifully velvety.
Origin
STILVOL. consists of four friends from Baden-Württemberg: Jessica, Markus, Danny, and Markus. All four grew up in the countryside in Upper Swabia and Hohenlohe and now live in Laupheim and Stuttgart. Their motto is "Preserve tradition and reshape it."
The Goldene Nuss is produced by a small distiller in Baden-Württemberg who works with caramelized hazelnuts. The STILVOL. team bottles, seals, labels, and packs every bottle by hand. STILVOL. consciously avoids artificial additives; the sweetness and color come from the caramelized nuts. Allergy advice: The spirit is made from hazelnuts.
For whom
The Goldene Nuss is for everyone who likes hazelnuts and is looking for a mild schnapps that can also be enjoyed by guests who would otherwise turn down a fruit brandy. It is a gift for coffee lovers who like to mix an Espresso Martini.
Those who want to try the fruity sister should go for the Frucht-Williams Goldene Birne, also mild and slightly sweet. You can find all bottles on our STILVOL. page. The spirit has 32% ABV; sale is permitted from the age of 18. It is not suitable for people with a hazelnut allergy or for those looking for a dry, clear schnapps.
