Windspiel Premium Dry Christmas Gin. Potato-based dry gin with notes of baked apple, vanilla, and gold leaf, 47% ABV – the Christmas edition from the Vulkaneifel.
Windspiel Premium Dry Christmas Gin is a potato-based dry gin from the Vulkaneifel: the classic Windspiel botanicals with juniper, plus apple, vanilla, roasted hazelnut, and cinnamon, 47% ABV, 500 ml. Gold leaf floats in the clear bottle, and the label can be personalized.
Christmas Gin by Windspiel is the seasonal edition of their Premium Dry Gin: the same potato gin, but with winter botanicals that immediately evoke thoughts of baked apples. Juniper remains the backbone, layered with fine nuances of apple, vanilla, roasted hazelnut, and light cinnamon notes. The gin is very popular because it combines two things in one bottle: a gin for you to enjoy in the evening, and a gift that captures the spirit of Advent.
It is the gin for a Sunday with candles, cookies, and friends who stay a while. Windspiel says that the Christmas season is all about togetherness, beautiful memories, and seasonal delicacies – and the bottle is designed just for that.
Baked apple, vanilla, and hazelnut over classic juniper
The Christmas Gin smells and tastes of baked apple, vanilla, and roasted hazelnut, with cinnamon on the edges and juniper as the base note.
Windspiel describes the composition as a winter continuation of their classic gin botanicals: the balanced interplay of juniper with seasonal winter ingredients, refined in an extraordinary way. At 47% ABV, it remains a robust gin, with the apple and vanilla notes giving it a warm, rounded character.
In the nosing, you can identify the components: apple and vanilla, roasted hazelnut, cinnamon, and beneath them the juniper of the classic Windspiel Gin. Windspiel describes it as a lovely symphony of apple, vanilla, roasted hazelnut, and cinnamon. Those who prefer their gin dry and spicy can mix it with a bitter tonic and keep the sweetness of the aromas in the background.
The gold leaf is part of the bottle: gold flakes float in the clear liquid like in a snow globe. Windspiel calls this an homage to the Christmas season. If you tip the bottle slightly, the flakes move and shimmer in the candlelight.
Neat on ice, as a Gin & Tonic, or with apple juice
The Christmas Gin can be enjoyed neat on ice, mixed as a Gin & Tonic, or used in winter cocktails and long drinks.
For a Gin & Tonic, pour 4 cl of gin over plenty of ice in a large glass and fill with 12 cl of tonic water. An apple slice and a cinnamon stick make the perfect garnish, while the gold leaf provides a shimmering, golden dance in the glass. For a gin-apple long drink, use 4 cl of gin, 10 cl of cloudy apple juice, ice, and a cinnamon stick for stirring. For enjoying it neat, 2 cl in a small glass at room temperature is sufficient.
For afternoon gatherings, a small aperitif is enough: 3 cl of gin over two ice cubes, a strip of orange zest, and a plate of nut cookies on the side. And if you serve dessert, pour a splash of gin over a scoop of vanilla ice cream next to a baked apple.
Cookies with hazelnut, gingerbread, and a baked apple with vanilla sauce all pair well with the gin, as the aromas are repeated in the glass and on the plate. The Christmas Gin is a spirit with 47% ABV and is only sold to adults aged 18 and over. For a social evening, it is worth having a glass of water on the side.
Our tip: Only place the bottle on the table when you are ready to pour, and do not serve the gin ice-cold. At room temperature, the vanilla and hazelnut flavors emerge more clearly, and the gold leaf remains mobile.
The Christmas edition from the Vulkaneifel distillery
Windspiel is a distillery in Berlingen near Daun in the Vulkaneifel, and the Christmas Gin is their seasonal edition of the Premium Dry Gin.
Sandra Wimmeler and Denis Lönnendonker founded the company in 2014. The gins are based on potato alcohol instead of grain; the potatoes grow on their own farm in the mineral-rich volcanic soils of the Eifel. For the Christmas edition, selected botanicals were macerated and distilled with their house-made base alcohol and bottled in a clear bottle with gold leaf. Distillation takes place in Germany, and the distillery uses solar power.
The clear bottle shows what is inside: the liquid, the gold, and beneath it the label, which Windspiel describes as a special eye-catcher on Christmas Eve. As with all Windspiel gins, the base alcohol comes from regional potato cultivation, and the 500 ml bottle is enough for an entire Advent season with guests.
The label has a festive design and can be personalized by writing on it. This allows you to add a name or a short greeting to the bottle, turning it into a personal gift. Windspiel states that the gin captures the balanced interplay of classic Windspiel botanicals with winter ingredients, giving it a unique profile.
The gift for gin drinkers and evenings with loved ones
The Christmas Gin is the perfect bottle for anyone who wants to give a gin fan something personal for Christmas.
Whether for the hostess, a colleague, or a father-in-law with a home bar: the bottle feels personal and is a gin that enthusiasts enjoy opening. With the writable label and the gold leaf, the bottle is an eye-catcher under the tree or on the table on Christmas Eve even without gift wrap. If you want to get to know the foundation of it all, try the Premium Dry Gin with lemon and lavender. For its counterpart with coffee, there is the Caxambu Coffee Gin. You can find all bottles on our Windspiel page.
The Christmas Gin is not suitable for those looking for a classic, dry juniper gin – for that, the base version is the right choice. And it is not intended for minors or guests who are driving. If you are giving the bottle as a gift, it is best to include a short card, as the writable label carries the greeting itself.
