Windspiel Aperitivo Bitter Orange Liqueur. Bitter aperitif with orange aromatics and a delicate bitterness, 16% vol – the base for a Spritz.
Windspiel Aperitivo Bitter Orange Liqueur is a bitter aperitif in orange: herbs and roots with the fruit of sun-ripened oranges, 16% vol, 500 ml. The typical bitterness of a classic aperitif meets sweet and tart notes – neat on ice, with soda, or as a Spritz.
Aperitivo from Windspiel is a bitter orange liqueur, a bitter aperitif that combines the bitterness of classic aperitifs with fruity orange. It is intended as a base: a splash over ice, topped with sparkling water, and the evening begins with a glass that is slightly bitter and slightly sweet. Windspiel describes the interplay of sweet and tart notes as expressive. It is the bottle for the hour before a meal, when olives and salty snacks are on the table.
The term "aperitivo" comes from Italy and refers to a pre-meal drink intended to stimulate the appetite. A bitter aperitif relies on tart notes for this purpose, which are rounded off by sweetness and fruit.
Fruity orange meets delicate bitterness
The Aperitivo tastes of orange and bitter: fruity and intense on the palate, with a finely balanced bitterness that gives the liqueur depth.
The aromatics are defined by the freshness of ripe oranges, complemented by tart notes. According to the manufacturer, the finely tuned bitterness ensures a balanced taste experience. At 16% vol, the Aperitivo is significantly lighter than a gin, yet it is an alcoholic liqueur.
Note on label information: The Aperitivo contains quinine, the coloring agent E 120, and celery. If you have a celery allergy, this is not the right choice for you.
On ice, as a Spritz with soda or Prosecco
The Aperitivo works well neat over ice, topped with soda, or as a bitter base for Spritz drinks.
For a simple Spritz, pour 6 cl of Aperitivo over plenty of ice in a large wine glass and top with 12 cl of soda. For something more festive, use 6 cl of Aperitivo, 9 cl of Prosecco, and a splash of soda. An orange slice is a must for garnish, and a green olive on a pick provides a tart counterpoint. For serving neat over ice, 4 cl is sufficient. The liqueur has 16% vol and is only sold to adults aged 18 and over.
Small snacks go well with a Spritz: olives, Parmesan, salty crackers, or a slice of ciabatta with olive oil. A plate of tomatoes and mozzarella or a few slices of salami are also obvious accompaniments to the glass.
Our tip: Add the ice first, then the Aperitivo, and finally the sparkling water. This preserves the carbonation and distributes the bitter evenly throughout the glass.
Windspiel from the Vulkaneifel: the distillery behind the Aperitivo
Windspiel is a distillery in Berlingen near Daun in the Vulkaneifel region, known for its potato-based gins.
Sandra Wimmeler and Denis Lönnendonker founded the company in 2014. The gins are based on potato alcohol instead of grain; the potatoes grow on their own farm in the mineral-rich volcanic soils of the Eifel. Distillation takes place in Germany, and the distillery relies on solar power. The Aperitivo complements the gin range with a bitter liqueur for Spritz and aperitifs.
For the hour before dinner and for Spritz fans
The Aperitivo is the bottle for anyone who enjoys classic aperitifs and is looking for a bitter orange liqueur with character.
It fits perfectly in the home bar, for a summer evening, or as a reception drink before a meal. For those who want a gin afterward, there is the Premium Dry Gin; for guests who are driving, the alcohol-free gin alternative from Windspiel is the right choice. You can find all bottles on our Windspiel page.
The Aperitivo is not suitable for those expecting a sweet orange liqueur – it remains bitter. It is also not intended for minors.
