TAIGA Naturkost Supermix "Taiga" Organic 225g. Snack mix of Siberian cedar nuts, mulberries, physalis, fermented cocoa beans, and cashews – raw, organic, 225 g.
TAIGA Naturkost Supermix "Taiga" Organic 225g is a blend of dried mulberries and physalis, 20 percent wild-harvested Siberian cedar nuts, 12 percent fermented cocoa beans, and cashew kernels. Organic, vegan, raw-food quality according to the manufacturer, and blended in the Palatinate region. The sweetness comes from the mulberry and physalis, the bitter note from the cocoa bean – no sugar, no chocolate, no added flavoring. 225 g in a stand-up pouch.
Supermix "Taiga" from TAIGA Naturkost is the signature blend of this Palatinate-based company, named after the boreal forest from which its most important ingredient originates. Cedar nuts are the seeds of the Siberian cedar, a type of stone pine, and are wild-harvested in the Altai Mountains. Added to this are four ingredients that, at first glance, have little to do with each other: mulberries with their honey-like sweetness, physalis with fruity acidity, whole fermented Criollo cocoa beans, and mild cashews. Together, this creates a blend that starts sweet, continues with acidity, and finishes with a tart note – like a deconstructed dessert. At TAIGA, "raw food" means processed at a maximum of 45 degrees Celsius.
Taste
This is the blend for anyone who loves contrasts. The mulberries taste of honey and fig, the physalis are tart and fruity like a small gooseberry, with the chewy, almost sticky consistency of a dried fruit. The cocoa beans act as the counterweight: crunchy, tart, with the bitterness of dark chocolate and a fine fruity acidity developed during fermentation. The cedar nuts are soft and resinous-nutty, the cashews mild and creamy.
Those who eat a bean on its own will find it bitter; those who chew it together with a mulberry will have chocolate and honey in their mouth. That is how the blend is intended. Anyone expecting a sweet, roasted snack mix will find the Supermix too tart and too rough.
Usage
Enjoying it straight from the bag is the most common way: on a hike, at the desk, or after sports. The manufacturer also recommends it in yogurt, muesli, or as an addition to a smoothie, where the cocoa beans are blended and distribute their bitter note.
In the kitchen, the mix belongs on desserts: sprinkled over pudding, "nice cream" made from frozen bananas, or a bowl of porridge. Coarsely chopped, it becomes a topping for banana bread or a crumble for a chocolate tart. Store the bag in a cool, dark, and dry place; once opened, reseal airtight and consume within three months, according to the manufacturer.
Our tip: Spread a piece of bread with cedar nut chocolate cream and sprinkle a handful of Supermix on top. The cream provides the sweetness, the beans provide the crunch – and the cedar nut is in both.
Origin
The Supermix has been blended and packaged in Harthausen in the Palatinate since 2024, the production site for TAIGA Naturkost; the administration is based in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. The company grew up around the cedar nut: in 1999, the Russian composer Alexander Sojnikow founded a publishing house after immigrating to the Palatinate. In 2004, organic certification and the Altai cedar nut project were added, followed by the TAIGA Naturkost brand in 2010. His son, Jaroslaw Sojnikow, now runs the company as the second generation.
According to the manufacturer, the cedar nuts originate from certified organic wild harvesting in the Altai Mountains. In August and September, collector families head into the forests, climb the trees, and pick the cones by hand; the kernels are shelled and vacuum-sealed on-site before they are shipped to Germany. Mulberries, physalis, cocoa beans, and cashews come from certified organic cultivation. Taiga is the name of the boreal coniferous forest where the Siberian cedar grows – which is also the origin of the company name.
For whom
The Supermix is for chocolate lovers who prefer their cocoa as a bean rather than a bar, and for anyone who prefers fruit and nuts to a candy bar while on the move. The bag makes a great gift for coffee drinkers and cocoa fans. Those who prefer something milder and less tart should reach for the "Kunterbunt" (Colorful) Enjoyment Mix with goji berries and sour cherries. You can find all products from the manufacturer on the TAIGA Naturkost page, and further blends in our Nuts, Seeds & More category.
Note: The blend contains cashew kernels and cedar nuts (tree nuts) and may contain traces of almonds, Brazil nuts, pecans, and macadamia nuts. It is not suitable for those who are allergic to nuts or who avoid bitter foods.
