TAIGA Naturkost Maschas Kascha – Organic Sprouted Muesli Base Mix. Sprouted base muesli made from spelt, barley, buckwheat, oats, and flaxseed – organic, vegan, 400 g.
TAIGA Naturkost Maschas Kascha – Organic Sprouted Muesli Base Mix is a base muesli made from five sprouted organic ingredients: spelt flakes, barley flakes, buckwheat, oat flakes, and crushed flaxseed. The grain is sourced from European farms and is sprouted, gently dried, and packaged by TAIGA Naturkost in the Palatinate region. No fruit, no nuts, no added sugar – 400 g of pure base that you can supplement yourself according to your taste.
Maschas Kascha from TAIGA Naturkost is a sprouted muesli, which makes it different from standard store-bought flake mixes. "Kascha" is the Russian word for porridge or groats, and the mix is intended to be just as wholesome. During the sprouting process, the grains are awakened in water until the seedling emerges; TAIGA then dries them gently. The manufacturer describes the process as the careful sprouting of all ingredients, from the spelt to the flaxseed. The bag contains the foundation for a breakfast: five types of grains and seeds that you can turn into your own unique mix with fruit, nuts, or a spoonful of cedar nut butter.
Flavor
Maschas Kascha tastes like what is inside: grain. Spelt and oats provide a mild, slightly nutty base note, the barley adds something hearty, and the buckwheat contributes its typical tart, earthy tone. The crushed flaxseed has a slightly oily texture in between and binds the muesli as soon as liquid is added. There is no sweetness from sugar, honey, or dried fruit here; that only comes with what you add yourself.
The flakes are ready to eat. Covered with plant-based milk or juice, they soften in a few minutes and become creamy without becoming mushy. Anyone expecting a crispy granola will find Maschas Kascha too plain; if you are looking for an honest grain muesli, this is the right choice.
Preparation
TAIGA recommends the mix with orange juice, plant-based milk, or hot water; the muesli is ready after just a few minutes. Add a few chopped apples, a handful of berries, or some dates, and breakfast is served. It becomes creamier with yogurt or quark, and crunchier with walnuts or almonds.
For those who like it warm, cook the mix in water or plant-based milk for two to three minutes to create a porridge, as suggested by the manufacturer. A pinch of salt, a little cinnamon, a spoonful of applesauce: your winter breakfast is ready. Store the bag in a cool, dark, and dry place; once opened, seal airtight and consume within two to three months according to the manufacturer.
Our tip: Stir a teaspoon of cedar nut butter into the warm porridge. The butter melts in the heat and gives the grain a delicate forest note – a breakfast where both ingredients come from the same Palatinate workshop.
Origin
Maschas Kascha comes from Harthausen in the Palatinate. Since 2024, TAIGA Naturkost has operated its production, warehouse, and factory outlet there under one roof; the administration is based in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. The company grew with the Siberian cedar nut: in 1999, after immigrating to the Palatinate, Russian composer Alexander Sojnikow founded a small publishing house; organic certification and the cedar nut project in the Altai followed in 2004, and the TAIGA Naturkost brand was launched in 2010. Today, his son Jaroslaw Sojnikow runs the company in the second generation.
Since 2022/23, TAIGA has focused on a second priority: sprouted grain from European cultivation. The spelt, barley, oats, buckwheat, and flaxseed for Maschas Kascha are sourced from organic farms in the EU and are sprouted, dried, and packaged in their own facility. According to the manufacturer, the stand-up pouch is free of bisphenol A and made from vegan raw materials.
Who is it for?
The base mix is for everyone who prefers to assemble their own muesli rather than buying a pre-mixed version. The neutral base is practical for families where everyone likes something different in their muesli: one bag, and everyone sprinkles their own fruit and nuts on top. If you prefer ready-made fruit mixes, TAIGA offers Ivan’s Muesli with mulberries and apricots or the gluten-free Nastja’s Muesli. All products from the manufacturer can be found on the TAIGA Naturkost page, and more breakfast ideas are available in our Muesli and Cereals category.
Note: The muesli contains gluten from spelt, barley, and oats and may contain traces of sesame, lupin, cashew, nuts, and tree nuts. It is not suitable for people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance – for that, we offer the gluten-free Nastja’s Muesli.
