Jörg Geiger Prisecco Sommerbirne alkoholfrei. Seasonal non-alcoholic PriSecco made from pear juice with chamomile and linden – soft, floral and finely sparkling.
Jörg Geiger Prisecco Sommerbirne alkoholfrei is the summer edition of the PriSecco range from Schlat on the Swabian Alb. In the bottle: 95% pear juice, chamomile and linden blossom water, green barley, spices and carbonation, 0.0% alcohol, 750 ml. A sparkling pear aperitif for the garden table, salad and cheese.
Sommerbirne by Jörg Geiger is the PriSecco for the warmer months. The craft brewery summarizes it in three words on the label: pear, chamomile, linden. The base is pear juice from Swabian meadow fruit, meaning old pear varieties from the traditional orchards around Schlat. This is complemented by chamomile and linden blossom water, a portion of ground green barley and spices. Finally, carbonation is added. In addition to the four classics, the craft brewery offers four seasonal editions, and Sommerbirne is the one for summer. Imagine an evening on the terrace, the sun still low over the fruit trees, with a salad with roasted pear on the table. This glass is made exactly for that.
Sommerbirne combines ripe pear with the scent of linden and chamomile blossoms
In the glass, Sommerbirne appears light and finely sparkling, with delicate floral notes first on the nose. Linden and chamomile give the aroma a light, summery direction, with juicy, ripe pear underneath.
On the palate, pear takes center stage, soft and round, with a sweetness that comes from the fruit. This is complemented by a subtle bitterness, as the old pear varieties bring tannins. They give the drink body and structure, so the fruit does not become too broad. According to the craft brewery, the ground green barley provides a full-bodied finish. This creates an interplay between sweet pear and the slightly bitter, green notes of the blossoms, which carries through to the last sip.
There are two things you should know. Due to the green barley, Sommerbirne contains gluten and is therefore not suitable for a gluten-free diet. And if you are looking for a herbal, bitter, dry aperitif, you will find it more in other bottles from the craft brewery. Sommerbirne is floral and fruit-focused.
Sommerbirne shows its strengths with leaf salad, fresh goat cheese and rhubarb dessert
Sommerbirne tastes best at 8 to 10°C served in a sparkling wine glass. As an aperitif, open it when the guests arrive and pour a glass for everyone at the table, including those who do not drink alcohol.
For food, the craft brewery recommends three accompaniments. The first is a leaf salad with fresh goat cheese and caramelized pear slices. For this, briefly fry pear slices in a little butter with a spoonful of sugar. Place them on mild leaves such as lamb's lettuce or arugula and add fresh goat cheese and a few roasted walnuts. Keep the dressing mild, so there is room for the floral notes in the glass.
The second accompaniment is a stronger blue cheese with pear jelly. The pear in the glass picks up the pear on the plate and provides a sweet counterpoint to salt and spice. For dessert, Sommerbirne pairs well with anything containing rhubarb, such as rhubarb compote with vanilla quark or a rhubarb crumble. The acidity of the rhubarb and the soft pear complement each other.
Our tip: Add a thin slice of fresh pear and a leaf of lemon balm to the glass before pouring. This turns Sommerbirne into an aperitif for the garden table.
Sommerbirne comes from the Jörg Geiger craft brewery in Schlat
Sommerbirne is made at the Jörg Geiger craft brewery in Schlat on the edge of the Swabian Alb. The craft brewery calls its raw material Swabian meadow fruit. This refers to old, often tart apple and pear varieties from the traditional orchards of the region, which are not very suitable as table fruit but give structure in the glass. Local farmers supply the fruit and are registered with WiesenObst e.V., which the craft brewery co-founded together with Slow Food Deutschland.
Jörg Geiger is a trained chef. In 1997, at the age of 22, he took over his parents' inn, Lamm, and in 2003, he bottled the first PriSecco. To this day, all production steps take place at the craft brewery, from the delivery of the fruit to composition and bottling. According to the craft brewery's FAQ, all juice-based PriSeccos contain 0.0% alcohol, including Sommerbirne. We explain in detail what makes PriSecco special and which varieties are available in our article Jörg Geiger PriSecco.
A summer edition that is only available in season
Sommerbirne is a seasonal edition. The craft brewery bottles it once a year, and once it is finished, you have to wait until the next season. If it is currently sold out with us, it will be back with the next bottling in summer.
It is perfect for barbecue evenings, garden parties, summer weddings, and toasting with everyone who feels like having a glass with fruit. Unopened, store it in a cool, dark place; according to the craft brewery, almost all non-alcoholic products last at least 24 months. Once opened, seal the bottle with a sparkling wine stopper and place it in the refrigerator. One bottle is enough for five to six glasses. If you prefer it more spiced, try the PriSecco Weißduftig with elderflower and herbs. The pear in its winter dress is available as PriSecco Winterbirnentraum.
