s guate Tröpfle Cherry Liqueur. Fruit liqueur from regional sour cherries, sweet and tart, 16.6% vol – from Durchhausen.
s guate Tröpfle Cherry Liqueur is a fruit liqueur from the liqueur distillery of Andrea and Oliver in Durchhausen, in the district of Tuttlingen. Regional sour cherries, prepared by hand, 16.6% vol, 200 ml. No added flavorings, no coloring, no preservatives – the cherry provides the acidity, color, and flavor itself.
Cherry liqueur from s guate Tröpfle is a liqueur made from sour cherries that are soaked in alcohol until they have released their flavor. The producer calls this maceration and works entirely by hand. Using sour cherries instead of sweet cherries is a deliberate choice: the fruit's acidity keeps the sweetness of the liqueur in check, turning the cherry into a sweet-tart, refreshing liqueur with a deep flavor profile. At 16.6% vol, it is the mildest liqueur from s guate Tröpfle in our range, which is precisely why it fits so well in a champagne glass or over dessert.
Sour cherry upfront, a balance of acidity and sweetness
The liqueur tastes of ripe sour cherry, sweet and tart at the same time, with a deep fruit volume that the manufacturer describes as an experience of this fruit. The color is dark red and comes solely from the cherry.
In the aroma, you recognize the cherry immediately; on the palate, it remains fresh because the acidity of the sour cherry balances the sweetness. The finish is soft, and at 16.6% vol, it is significantly gentler than the house's wine-based liqueurs. Those expecting a strong, warm liqueur like a brandy will find it lighter and fruitier – it is a liqueur to be savored, not a schnapps. According to the producer, the alcohol content may vary by batch; the label is definitive.
Neat, in sparkling wine, or with dessert – three ways the producer suggests
Neat, in sparkling wine, or with desserts: this is how the producer recommends his cherry liqueur, and all three ways work. Drink it neat at room temperature from a small glass, two centiliters after a meal.
For an aperitif, add one centiliter to a champagne glass and fill with dry sparkling wine – the sour cherry adds color while remaining fresh. For dessert, it pairs well over vanilla ice cream, in red berry jelly (Rote Grütze), with chocolate cake, or in the cream for a Black Forest gateau. Once opened, the bottle belongs in the refrigerator and should be consumed within a few weeks because the producer avoids preservatives. With 16.6% vol, the liqueur is a spirit: sale permitted from age 18.
Our tip: Pour two centiliters over cold mineral water with a slice of lemon – a light summer drink that tastes like a cherry tree.
Regional sour cherries, old recipes, handmade in Durchhausen
s guate Tröpfle is the liqueur distillery of Andrea and Oliver in Durchhausen, a village in the Tuttlingen district between the Black Forest and Lake Constance. The cherry liqueur is created there in their own distillery, by hand and according to old recipes, as the producer notes.
The house's fruit liqueurs are described as a walk through the local garden: many fruits grow in their own gardens or wild in the surroundings and are harvested by hand; many recipes stem from the region's traditions, from family, or from old books. Only regional sour cherries are used for the cherry liqueur. Because the distillery lives with the harvest, the liqueur can, according to the producer, be seasonally sold out for short periods. Before it goes on sale, it is given the storage and maturation time it needs.
For sparkling wine mixers, dessert chefs, and anyone who likes it milder
This is the bottle for anyone who prefers fruit liqueurs to be fresh rather than heavy and likes to keep the alcohol content a notch lower. At 200 ml, it is a perfect gift to bring to a coffee visit and enough for a round of "Kir" on Sunday.
The Raspberry Liqueur made from regional raspberries is stronger and more berry-forward, while the Pinot Noir Liqueur is wine-like and matured for a year. You can find all bottles from Durchhausen on our s guate Tröpfle page, and other liqueurs from different producers in the Liqueurs category. This liqueur is not suitable for those looking for a strong cherry brandy with 40% vol – it is sweet, fruity, and mild.
