inge Ginger Liqueur 500ml. Ginger liqueur with orange and lemon peel, bourbon vanilla and rosemary – fruity and spicy, with a fine herbal note.
inge Ginger Liqueur 500ml is a ginger liqueur from the inge manufactory in the Munich area, prepared with fresh ginger, orange and lemon peel, bourbon vanilla, and fresh rosemary. It is refined with oak-aged cachaça. Depending on the batch, it has 17 to 20% vol, and the bottle contains 500 ml.
Ginger Liqueur by inge is a spirit with sugar in which fresh ginger plays the leading role. A liqueur is created when fruits, herbs, or spices release their flavor into alcohol and the mixture is subsequently sweetened. In the case of inge, these are ginger, orange and lemon peel, bourbon vanilla, and rosemary. The list of ingredients is correspondingly short: ginger, lemon and orange peel, vanilla, rosemary, sugar, and alcohol. As for the alcohol, the manufacturer specifies an oak-aged Gold Artesanal Cachaça. Cachaça is a sugarcane spirit from Brazil; aging in oak barrels gives it a golden color and soft woody notes. inge describes the liqueur as a "Bavarian Small Batch" and bottles it in limited editions. Because each batch turns out slightly different, the alcohol content varies between 17 and 20% vol, depending on the bottling.
Taste
The ginger liqueur tastes fruity and spicy, with a fine herbal note. The spiciness of the fresh ginger is in balance with the fruity notes of orange and lemon. That is how the manufacturer describes it. The vanilla rounds it off and provides warmth, while the rosemary adds a slightly resinous, herbal freshness. In the background, the cachaça resonates, soft and slightly woody. According to inge, neither flavorings nor extracts, colorings, or flavor enhancers enter the bottle. Those expecting a very sweet, creamy liqueur will find this one too spicy.
Use
The manufacturer suggests several ways: neat, on ice, as a ginger shot, or in cocktails. It is best enjoyed neat, slightly chilled from a small liqueur glass, slowly and in small sips. On ice, it becomes milder because the melting water takes the edge off the spiciness. As a shot, it shows its ginger heat most clearly.
In mixed drinks, the liqueur provides ginger, citrus, and sweetness all at once. Lengthened with tonic water or ginger ale and a slice of orange, it makes a simple long drink. A dash in a glass of sparkling wine gives the aperitif a spicy note. It also works well in small amounts over vanilla ice cream or in a chocolate mousse. After opening, store the bottle in a cool place. According to the manufacturer, you should shake it well before pouring.
Our tip: Two scoops of vanilla ice cream with a spoonful of ginger liqueur and a little grated orange zest. A quick dessert for guests that tastes of ginger and citrus.
Origin
inge began as an insider tip in Munich-Giesing. In a small shop-cafe on Watzmannstraße, Sascha Elsperger prepared his first ginger syrup; the recipe was developed after many attempts in his own kitchen. The name is a homage to ginger and to Giesing; there is no real "Inge." Later, the liqueur and a fruit spread were added. Today, the inge Manufaktur GmbH is based in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn in the Munich district, and the shop-cafe in Giesing still exists.
The ginger and the untreated citrus fruits are delivered fresh and processed on the same day. Each ginger root is hand-selected, and oranges and lemons are zested by hand. A machine helps slice the ginger into fine slices. Afterwards, everything is prepared in a kettle with a secret spice blend. Bottling and labeling are done by hand. According to the manufacturer's ingredient list, the liqueur contains none of the 14 main allergens. It is not organic certified.
For whom
The ginger liqueur is for adults who like ginger and are looking for a liqueur with spice and freshness. It is suitable as a digestif after a heavy meal, as an ingredient for your own long drinks, and as a gift for ginger fans. Sale only to persons 18 years and older. If you would like to try it first, the Ginger Liqueur 40ml is available as a small bottle. You can find more about the Giesing-based manufactory on our page for the inge Manufaktur.
