TAIGA Naturkost Organic Goji Berries 70g. Dried goji berries, unsulphured and raw – slightly tart, soft, organic, 70 g.
TAIGA Naturkost Organic Goji Berries 70g are dried goji berries from certified organic farming, unsulphured and, according to the manufacturer, in raw food quality, packaged in the Palatinate region. The berries are soft rather than hard, have a slightly tart taste and a mild sweetness – with no added sugar, no oil, and no sulphur. 70 g in a stand-up pouch, the small pack for trying them out.
Goji berries from TAIGA Naturkost are the dried fruits of the common boxthorn, a shrub from Central Asia. In their home region, they are known by names such as "berry of happiness" and "red diamond," according to the manufacturer. Here, almost everyone knows them as the small, red, oblong dried fruit found in muesli. TAIGA sources the berries dried and unsulphured from organic farming – sulphur keeps dried fruits bright, but alters their flavour. The berries here are somewhat softer than standard products and, according to the manufacturer, are of raw food quality, meaning they have not been heated above 45 degrees Celsius during processing.
Taste
The berries taste different than their colour suggests: less sweet than raisins, tarter than sweetened cranberries, with a slightly bitter finish. The sweetness is subtle and only emerges while chewing. The consistency is soft and slightly chewy, like a well-dried sour cherry; the small seeds offer a gentle crunch.
Those who have previously known them as a hard, crumbly product will notice the difference with the first bite. Anyone expecting a really sweet dried fruit like dates or raisins will find them too tart – but they are perfect for dishes where raisins would be too sweet.
Use
Eaten plain as a snack straight from the bag, a small handful is the easiest way. The manufacturer also suggests smoothies, muesli, yoghurt, salads, desserts, cakes, energy bars, and pastries. In muesli, the berries replace raisins; in yoghurt, they add tartness and colour; and in a leaf salad with goat cheese and walnuts, they replace cranberries.
Soaked, they become soft and juicy: ten minutes in warm water or juice, then stir into porridge, rice pilaf, or a couscous salad. In batter for oatmeal cookies or banana bread, they hold their shape and become a bit sweeter in the oven. Store the bag in a cool, dark, and dry place and seal it well after opening.
Our tip: Add a handful of goji berries to Ivan's or Nastja's muesli from TAIGA – or try the "Kunterbunt" (colourful) Nut Mix, in which they are combined with cedar nuts, cashews, and sour cherries.
Origin
The berries are packaged in Harthausen in the Palatinate, where TAIGA Naturkost has consolidated its production, warehouse, and factory outlet since 2024; the administration is based in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. The company is known for Siberian cedar nuts: in 1999, the Russian composer Alexander Sojnikow founded a publishing house after immigrating to the Palatinate; in 2004, organic certification and the cedar nut project in the Altai region were added, and in 2010, the TAIGA Naturkost brand was launched. His son, Jaroslaw Sojnikow, now runs it in the second generation.
With the brand, the assortment grew to include nuts and dried fruits. According to TAIGA, they source these from smaller family cooperatives and larger partner farms using organic methods, unsulphured and without additives, and test every delivery sensorially before it is released. The manufacturer indicates the country of origin on the packaging. According to TAIGA, the stand-up pouch is free of Bisphenol A and made from vegan raw materials.
For whom
The 70g pack is for everyone who wants to try goji berries first before buying a large quantity. And for households where a handful in the muesli per week is enough. For bakers, it is the perfect portion for a tray of cookies. If you prefer the berry in good company, choose the Nut Mix; if you want cocoa and physalis too, choose the "Taiga" Supermix. You can find all the manufacturer's products on the TAIGA Naturkost page, and other dried fruits and nuts in our category Nuts, Seeds & Co.
Note: The berries may contain traces of cashews, almonds, Brazil nuts, pecans, and macadamia nuts; they are gluten-free, soy-free, and peanut-free. They are not suitable for those expecting a truly sweet dried fruit like dates.
