Bacanha Vanilla Syrup. Organic vanilla syrup with natural vanilla flavor and lemon juice – for cappuccino, hot milk, and iced tea.
Bacanha Vanilla Syrup is an organic vanilla syrup made from cane sugar, water, natural vanilla flavor, and concentrated organic lemon juice by the Parisian syrup manufacturer Bacanha. Alcohol-free, 400 ml in a glass bottle, enough for about 20 cups or glasses. No vanilla sugar, no instant latte, no coloring – the coffee syrup with which you sweeten your own cappuccino.
Vanilla Syrup by Bacanha is known by the manufacturer as Sirop Vanille Brut and is, according to their own statement, the company's reference product. What is a vanilla syrup? The simplest way to add vanilla to a drink without scraping out a pod: sugar, water, and vanilla flavor, ready-dissolved and dosable by the spoonful. Bacanha keeps the list short: organic cane sugar, water, natural vanilla flavor, and concentrated organic lemon juice. The manufacturer speaks of the quintessence of vanilla, soft and natural in scent, creamy and exotic in taste, and recommends the syrup especially for recipes with milk. In the product range, vanilla is categorized under spices, among the épices, next to ginger.
Taste
The vanilla syrup tastes smooth and creamy, with a warm vanilla scent reminiscent of pudding and a subtle freshness from the lemon juice.
Vanilla is a quiet spice; it does not push itself forward, but rounds things off. The syrup behaves in exactly the same way: in milk and coffee, it provides the sweetness and scent you know from a good vanilla sauce, then steps back. The lemon juice keeps it fresh so that it remains light in the cup. Cane sugar is the primary ingredient; according to the manufacturer, a Sirop Brut is nevertheless less sweet than classic syrup. Those expecting a strong, dark vanilla tone, as provided by a whole pod in a pot, will find the syrup too mild. Those looking for vanilla as a companion for coffee and milk will find the right dose here.
Usage
For hot vanilla milk, stir 2 cl of vanilla syrup into a glass of hot milk and froth it up – the manufacturer's recipe for Lait chaud vanille.
In a cappuccino, add 2 cl to the cup before adding the espresso and milk foam. The manufacturer recommends this for its cappuccino crémeux and for hot chocolate with vanilla in winter. Cold, the syrup works in iced tea and lemonade: 2 cl to about 16 cl of water or cold black tea (about 1 part syrup to 8 parts water), meaning the bottle yields about 20 glasses. At the home bar, vanilla syrup belongs in a Pornstar Martini with vodka and passion fruit; the manufacturer doses it there with one and a half teaspoons.
The bottle contains 400 ml. Store in a cool, dry place; once opened, keep refrigerated and consume promptly.
Our tip: A dash of vanilla syrup in the milk foam for children's cocoa or over fresh strawberries with quark – the vanilla is already in it, and so is the sugar.
Origin
The term Sirop Brut was coined by Maison Bacanha itself, and their reference product, vanilla, shows what is meant by it.
According to the manufacturer, this refers to streamlined recipes, fine blends, and an aroma intensity that is deliberately controlled – in the case of the vanilla syrup, that means four ingredients. Bacanha was founded in 2013 in Paris and now operates out of a studio in Seine-et-Marne, east of the city, where every variety is blended, gently heated at low temperatures, and bottled in glass. The base is organic cane sugar from South America; the vanilla flavor, like all the house's aromas, is developed in the Grasse region, the home of French perfumers. All 15 varieties that we carry bear the EU organic logo. You can find more about the company and its varieties on our Bacanha page.
For whom
This vanilla syrup is the bottle for anyone who wants to flavor their own cappuccino, latte, or cocoa instead of ordering it at a café. It fits in the coffee kitchen, the office next to the machine, and on the table when children want hot milk and adults want iced tea.
Those who prefer their coffee to taste like confectionery should choose the Caramel Syrup; those who like it nutty, the Hazelnut Syrup – these three form the manufacturer's coffee trio. The vanilla syrup is not suitable for those who want to see actual vanilla seeds in the glass – the taste comes from natural vanilla flavor.
Natural vanilla flavor, lemon juice, and cane sugar, blended near Paris – the organic vanilla syrup with which you can refine your own cappuccino and hot milk.
