Berger Fruit Jelly Mix. Soft fruit jelly confectionery in seven varieties, pectin-gelled and vegan.
Berger Fruit Jelly Mix is a 100g pack of soft fruit jellies from the Berger Confiserie in Lofer in the Salzburg region. It contains seven varieties, ranging from mandarin to green pear. Gelled with pectin and colored with extracts from plants such as hibiscus, carrot, and spinach. For once, chocolate is not involved here.
Fruit Jelly Mix by Berger is confectionery in the classic sense. The soft treat consists of sugar, glucose syrup, and water, set with pectin and acidified with citric acid. Pectin is a plant-based substance that also makes jam firm. Therefore, the jelly does not require gelatin and is vegan according to the manufacturer. Flavorings provide the taste for the individual varieties, while coloring extracts from apples, hibiscus, carrots, safflower, lemon, pumpkin, spinach, and nettle provide the color. This creates a colorful mix in which every color represents a fruit. From a confectionery primarily known for chocolate, these fruit jellies form the light, cocoa-free side of the range.
Taste: seven varieties between citrus and pear
Each jelly tastes sweet at first, then bright and tart. The citric acid ensures that the sweetness remains fresh. According to the manufacturer, there are seven varieties in the pack: mandarin, lemon, orange, strawberry, raspberry, as well as yellow and green pear.
The three citrus varieties bring the most freshness to the mix. Strawberry and raspberry appear rounder and more berry-like. The two pears are the mildest and a good choice for those who find lemon too sour. In the mouth, a piece yields softly and dissolves slowly. If you expect the chewy consistency of gummy bears, you will be surprised: the jelly is significantly more delicate.
The varieties are flavored and thus reminiscent of their respective fruits. If you are looking for a confection made from pure fruit puree, you are better served with a fruit paste.
Usage: with coffee, for guests, and as a colorful addition
Fruit jelly is a classic confection for the coffee table. Place a few pieces on a small dish next to the cups, and everyone can help themselves to their favorite color. After a hearty meal, it is a light alternative to chocolates. Because the jelly is vegan, it is also suitable if you have guests at the table who avoid animal ingredients.
As a gift, the 100g pack works well, especially for people who prefer nibbling on fruity things rather than chocolate. Store the fruit jelly in a cool, dry place, protected from heat. After opening, it is best to keep the pieces in a well-sealing tin so that they remain soft.
Our tip: Place the fruit jelly on the table together with a few pieces of dark chocolate. The tart jellies and the bitter chocolate alternate well, and every guest will find something to their liking.
Origin: Confectionery from Lofer
The fruit jelly comes from the same confectionery as Berger's chocolate bars, from Lofer in the Pinzgauer Saalachtal valley. Hubert and Christine Berger specialized in fine chocolates and sweet works of art in 1994, starting on 25 square meters in his parents' garage. Hubert Berger is a master confectioner and chocolatier, while Christine Berger takes care of product design and packaging. In the meantime, their children Anna and Franz Berger are gradually taking over the management. All of Berger's confectionery is produced directly in Lofer.
In addition to chocolates and chocolate bars, Berger also carries specialties such as chocolate "cat tongues" and sugar-coated nuts. The fruit jelly supplements this selection with a cocoa-free variety. Unlike many Berger bars, it is not organic—we want to be open with you about that. In return, according to the manufacturer, it is vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free.
For whom: for fruit fans, mixed groups, and the coffee table
The Fruit Jelly Mix is suitable for anyone who likes fruity snacks and for hosts looking for confectionery for a mixed group. If you are also looking for something chocolatey, Berger offers Fine Dark Chocolate with Orange, which picks up on the citrus note of the jellies. A mild addition is the Organic Milk Chocolate Cat Tongues. You can find the entire range at Berger Confiserie.
In the manufacturer's allergen table for the fruit jelly, all listed major allergens are marked "No." It is not suitable for those who avoid sugar, as sugar and glucose syrup form the base.
