Berger Organic Milk Chocolate Cat Tongues. Thin chocolate tongues made from organic whole milk, 37% cocoa, 110 g.
Berger Organic Milk Chocolate Cat Tongues are flat, tongue-shaped tablets made of organic milk chocolate with at least 37% cocoa. Each pack contains 110 g. They are produced by Berger in Lofer, in the Salzburg region, using Fairtrade-certified cane sugar, cocoa, and vanilla.
Berger's Organic Milk Chocolate Cat Tongues are the perfect addition to a coffee table, even before anyone asks for cake. Cat tongues are thin, elongated chocolate pieces shaped like a cat's tongue. Unlike a bar, there is no need to break anything off: each tongue is an individual piece, just the right size for a single bite. Berger classifies them as a specialty, separate from their chocolate bars. It is the same mild organic milk chocolate you know from the confectionery, just cast into a different shape. Because they are so thin, the shape changes the experience: the chocolate melts faster, and the flavor hits all at once rather than gradually.
Milk, cocoa, and vanilla in a quick melt
The cat tongues have a mild taste of milk and cocoa, with a subtle note of vanilla and a well-rounded sweetness. Cane sugar is the first ingredient on the list. It provides a warm, slightly caramel-like sweetness that sets it apart from white sugar. This is followed by cocoa butter, whole milk powder, and cocoa mass, all from organic farming.
A piece melts on the tongue in just a few moments. The chocolate barely snaps; it gives way immediately. The cocoa content of at least 37% ensures that the milk carries the flavor without becoming lackluster. Those who prefer chewing on a thick piece of chocolate may find these tongues too delicate, but their charm lies in that brief, soft moment.
For coffee, tea, and the dessert plate
Cat tongues are at their best in moments where a whole bar would be too much. Place one on the saucer next to your espresso or serve two with afternoon tea. On a dessert plate, they complement vanilla ice cream, mousse, or a piece of fruit cake. When guests arrive, pour them into a small bowl and let everyone help themselves.
Because the tongues are thin, they react quickly to heat. Store them in a cool, dry place, protected from sunlight and radiators. In summer, they belong in the coolest cupboard in the kitchen. A short time at room temperature before serving is enough to let them develop their melt.
Our tip: Stick two cat tongues at an angle into a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This turns a simple ice cream into a small dessert for guests, with no effort at all.
Organic chocolate from a confectionery in the Saalachtal valley
The cat tongues come from Lofer in the Pinzgau Saalachtal, where the Berger family produces all their confectionery. It all started in 1994 in a roughly 25-square-meter garage belonging to Hubert Berger’s parents. Hubert is a master confectioner, and his wife, Christine, still shapes the product design and packaging today. In the meantime, Anna and Franz Berger are gradually taking over the management.
These cat tongues demonstrate how Berger handles raw materials. All ingredients come from organic farming; the organic control number is AT-BIO-301. The cane sugar, cocoa, and vanilla were grown and traded according to Fairtrade standards. According to the manufacturer, their total share in the product is 78.1%. The recipe remains simple: sugar, cocoa butter, milk, cocoa, vanilla, and sunflower lecithin.
For coffee tables and those with a small sweet tooth
These cat tongues are for you if you enjoy a single piece of chocolate with your coffee. They are perfect for families with children who like mild milk chocolate, or for hosts who want to offer something sweet in a bowl. They also make a lovely little gift. A greeting bar made from the same mild chocolate is the Organic Milk Chocolate "Thank You" Bar. For something darker, try the Premium Dark Chocolate Bar. See more from Lofer on the Berger Confiserie page.
Note: The cat tongues contain milk and may contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts. They are not intended for those looking for tart, dark chocolate.
