Rosenberg Organic Fruity Mustard. Slightly grainy organic mustard with apple and quince juice – fruity, with a balanced spiciness.
Rosenberg Organic Fruity Mustard is a slightly grainy organic mustard made from yellow and brown mustard seeds, refined with apple juice and quince juice. It is produced by Georgsenf in Halle an der Saale exclusively for Rosenberg Delikatessen and bottled in Leipzig. The jar contains 135 ml.
Fruity Mustard by Rosenberg is a fruit mustard, and that is reflected at the very top of the ingredient list: apple juice. This is followed by mustard seeds, spirit vinegar, and quince juice, rounded off with Hallore brine salt and spices. Unlike Rosenberg’s mild and spicy mustards, this variety contains no honey. The sweetness comes solely from the apple and quince. The mustard seeds are a mix of yellow and brown. The mustard is slightly grainy; you can see and feel the seeds on your spoon. The yellow seeds provide a mild, well-rounded flavor, while the brown seeds add more heat. This blend creates a balanced middle ground between fruit and bite. With the exception of the salt, all ingredients are from certified organic farming.
Flavor
The fruity mustard has a delicate fruity note that plays in balance with a mild spiciness, as described by the producer. At first, you taste the apple, fresh and bright. The quince adds its typical, slightly floral tone. Then comes the heat of the brown seeds—distinct, but not burning.
The grainy texture makes this mustard feel more rustic than a smooth table mustard. It is less sweet than Rosenberg’s mild mustard, but fruitier than the spicy one, placing it exactly in the middle of their small selection. If you are looking for a very sweet mustard to pair with a Weisswurst, you might find this one too savory.
The color is a warm mustard yellow with dark specks from the brown seeds. In the jar, it looks slightly looser than a creamy table mustard, yet it still holds its shape well on a knife. Cold from the fridge, it tastes a bit more reserved; at room temperature, the fruitiness becomes more prominent.
Usage
According to the manufacturer, this fruity mustard pairs well with meat dishes, cheese, as a dip, and in vinaigrettes. It brings fruit and spice to roast pork, Kassler (cured pork chop), or a piece of roast beef. On a cheese board, it goes well alongside mountain cheese or a sharp Gouda. To make a dip, stir it into some sour cream or yogurt for baked potatoes or veggie sticks.
It works particularly well in salad dressings. Rosenberg recommends a combination of olive oil, fruity mustard, and their redcurrant fruit spread. One teaspoon of mustard, one spoon of the spread, vinegar, oil, and salt—a fruity vinaigrette needs nothing more. Once opened, keep the jar tightly sealed in the refrigerator.
Our tip: Oven-baked Kassler with a crust of fruity mustard and a few breadcrumbs. Serve with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut—a Sunday meal without much effort.
Origin
Rosenberg Delikatessen began with an idea: all the ingredients for a good salad dressing should come from a single source. That is why the small Leipzig-based organic producer sells mustard and oils alongside their fruit spreads. It was founded by Matthias Rosenberg in the autumn of 2016. The mustard is produced exclusively for Rosenberg by Jörg Hündorf at Georgsenf in Halle an der Saale. Bottling takes place in Leipzig. The quince is a fitting ingredient for the producer, as Rosenberg once started with a quince harvest. Rosenberg is organic-certified by the control body DE-ÖKO-060. Allergen information: The mustard contains mustard.
For whom
The fruity mustard is for everyone who likes to use mustard in the kitchen, not just with sausage. It is perfect for those who make their own salad dressings, enjoy cooking roasts, or put together cheese platters. Combined with the Organic Redcurrant spread, it makes the dressing that Rosenberg themselves recommend. The Organic Mild Mustard is softer and contains honey. You can find all the producer's mustards and spreads on our Rosenberg Delikatessen page. It is not suitable for those who prefer a completely smooth, creamy mustard.
