Sasse Fine Distillery: Korn from the Münsterland

The Sasse Fine Distillery is located on the Schöppinger Berg in the Münsterland region and was first mentioned in 1707. In the mid-1980s, it was on the verge of closing. In December 1987, Rüdiger Sasse found an old bottle of Korn belonging to his great-grandfather Theo—this sparked the idea of aging Korn in wooden barrels like a fine spirit. Today, Sasse distills by hand in traditional stills, matures spirits in its own barrel warehouse, and brings everything together at one site, with the ambition of restoring German Korn to the status of a high-quality spirit.

Lagerkorn, Cigar Special, Atlantik Finish

The Münsterländer Lagerkorn V.S.O.P. is aged for at least four years in former Cognac barriques—smooth, with notes of vanilla, white chocolate, and malt, 32% ABV, also available as a 200 ml bottle. The Cigar Special, made from rye and barley malt, sits for five years in Limousin oak and receives a finish in heavily toasted American white oak, 40% ABV. The Atlantik Finish, made from rye and peat malt, matures for over six years in three types of barrels, culminating in a sherry cask from Jerez, 40% ABV—smoky, fruity, with a long, peaty finish.

Herbal Juniper, Amérie, and Liqueurs

The Grafschafter Herbal Juniper combines grain spirit with hand-picked juniper berries from the County of Bentheim. Amérie is Sasse's aperitif with macerated raspberries and whole wild strawberries in the bottle—served with sparkling wine over ice. In addition, there are the natural liqueurs Sechser (organic, with Jamaican rum), Cocoa with Nut, Chocolate Mint (organic), and Apricot with Honey, as well as the cream liqueurs from Paula Pumpernickel: Herrencreme, Milk Coffee, and Salted Caramel.

The Grafschafter Heide Gin brings juniper from the County of Bentheim into your glass, 45% ABV.
