Jörg Geiger ViSecco Pinot Meunier alcohol-free. Sparkling beverage with dealcoholized wine and Pinot Meunier grape juice – berry-forward, fresh, with red currant.
Jörg Geiger ViSecco Pinot Meunier alcohol-free is a sparkling, non-alcoholic beverage from Schlat in the Swabian Alb: 45% Pinot Meunier grape juice, 27% dealcoholized Sauvignon Blanc, apple and pear juice from Swabian meadow orchard fruit, herbs, blossoms, and spices, 0.0% vol, 750 ml. Not a sparkling wine, not a grape juice – a ViSecco for an aperitif and light cuisine.
ViSecco Pinot Meunier by Jörg Geiger belongs to the ViSecco line, which the producer describes as "more than alcohol-free wine." The principle: wine is dealcoholized at the workshop using gentle vacuum distillation and then composed with juices, herbs, blossoms, and spices into a sparkling beverage. The composition of this variety is special. The largest portion consists of grape juice from Pinot Meunier, the red grape variety known in Germany as Schwarzriesling. The wine component comes from dealcoholized Sauvignon Blanc. Apple and pear juice from meadow orchards contribute the manufacturer's signature touch. The legal designation is "aromatized non-alcoholic carbonated beverage with dealcoholized wine." A Sunday in May, the first asparagus on the plate, and in the champagne flute sparkles an aperitif that smells of red berries and grapes.
Taste
It has a berry-fruity aroma of red berries and grapes. Beneath this are subtle tart notes derived from the spices, including star anise and pepper. A fresh acidity dominates the palate, characterized by red currant. The mild notes of the Schwarzriesling round it off harmoniously. With 7g of sugar per 100ml, derived from grape and fruit juice, it tastes fruity and remains lively due to the acidity.
Its sibling, ViSecco Sauvignon Blanc, is lighter: fresh grasses, tropical fruits, citrus, and blossoms, with more dealcoholized wine in the glass. The Pinot Meunier is the red-berry, fruitier variation. Those expecting a dry, tart sparkling wine will find more fruit than tartness here.
Use
Serve at 8 to 10 °C in a champagne flute. As an aperitif, it stands well on its own, and the list of food recommendations from the producer is long. It ranges from quiche with salmon and goat cream cheese to strawberry or asparagus salads and fish dishes like grilled red mullet. A risotto with a fruity component, such as sour cherries or cranberries, also pairs well.
For dessert, Jörg Geiger recommends a strawberry yogurt dessert. The red currant in the glass and the strawberry on the spoon go well together, and the acidity keeps the dessert light.
Our tip: In May, prepare an asparagus salad with strawberries, arugula, and some goat cream cheese. That way, several of the producer's recommendations land on one plate.
Origin
In the ViSecco, grape and meadow orchard fruit meet. The Jörg Geiger workshop in Schlat at the Albtrauf grew up with fruit. "Swabian Meadow Orchard Fruit" (Schwäbisches WiesenObst) is the name for the old, often tart apple and pear varieties from high-trunk trees supplied by local farmers. All work steps from delivery to bottling remain in-house. Alcohol-free beverages have been created here since 2003, starting with the PriSecco.
Wine was added with the company's own dealcoholization plant, which has been operating for the GRAD°WANDERUNG line since 2023. During vacuum distillation, alcohol evaporates under negative pressure at low temperatures, preserving more wine aromas. Jörg Geiger is a trained chef and provides specific dishes for every beverage – for the ViSecco, the list ranges from salmon to strawberry dessert.
For whom
The ViSecco is for everyone looking for a sparkling aperitif with wine character who enjoys red berry fruit. It suits brunch, summer parties, and birthdays with guests who are driving. If you prefer your Pinot Meunier still and as a red, go for the 33 Grad Pinot Meunier from the GRAD°WANDERUNG line. You can find all lines on our Jörg Geiger page.
Note: The dealcoholized wine contains sulfites. The ViSecco is not suitable for those looking for a bone-dry sparkling wine.
