Wajos Pêche Rouge Secco alcohol-free. Dealcoholized wine, grape must, and vineyard peach aroma, sweet and fizzy – the Secco for toasting for anyone staying alcohol-free.
Wajos Peche Rouge vineyard peach Secco alcohol-free is an aromatized non-alcoholic beverage made from 53 percent dealcoholized wine, water, grape must, sugar, carbon dioxide, and flavoring, 750 ml from Dohr on the Moselle. Not a sparkling wine, not fruit juice with fizz, not a soda – but an alcohol-free Secco that tastes of red vineyard peach. Contains sulfur dioxide.
Peche Rouge Secco alcohol-free by Wajos solves a problem that pops up at every birthday: everyone makes a toast, and whoever is driving holds a glass of orange juice. This is the alternative that looks and feels like what everyone else is drinking – a bottle under pressure, a glass with bubbles, and a taste of peach and wine. The base is actually wine from which the alcohol has been removed, more than half of the bottle. Added to that are grape must and carbon dioxide. The difference compared to a juice spritzer is the same as between a Secco and a lemonade.
Peach up front, grape in the background, sweet and with a fine perlage
The first sip is peach: sweet and ripe, reminiscent of the red vineyard peach that grows on the Moselle between the vines. Behind it lies grape must, which provides the wine note, and the dealcoholized wine, which gives the drink the structure that a juice lacks. The carbon dioxide makes it fizzy. The Secco is definitely sweet, 8 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters, but with 36 kilocalories it is lighter than most juices. To be honest: the peach comes as an aroma rather than as juice – fruit is missing from the list of ingredients. Sulfur dioxide is included as an antioxidant. The Pêche Rouge is not suitable for those who expect a dry, tart Secco – the sweetness is part of the concept. Those looking for the version with alcohol will find it in the Peche Rouge Vineyard Peach Cocktail.
Chilled for a toast, as an aperitif, as a base for non-alcoholic cocktails
Well chilled, six to eight degrees, in a sparkling wine glass – that is how it is meant for a toast, at a birthday, at brunch, on New Year's Eve for those who are still driving at midnight. As an aperitif before a meal with a slice of peach or a few raspberries in the glass. As a base for non-alcoholic cocktails: with ice, mint, and a splash of lime it becomes an alcohol-free Hugo, with a dash of elderflower syrup a summer drink. On warm days on the patio, lengthened with plenty of ice and mineral water. It is not suitable for cooking or deglazing – the sweetness and carbonation belong in the glass rather than in the pan.
Our tip: A spoonful of Peach Elderflower & Lemon Tonic Syrup in the glass, filled up with the Secco – a non-alcoholic aperitif with double the peach.
From a wine house on the Moselle that knows what a Secco needs
Wajos comes from a family of winemakers: Walter Josef Oster, whose initials form the name, comes from the family winery in Ediger-Eller on the Moselle, 15 generations of viticulture. In the 1980s, he founded a liqueur manufactory, from which his son Peter Oster and Ulf Schwichtenberg built the Wajos brand in Dohr near Cochem – over 80 employees, their own stores, their own laboratory. An alcohol-free Secco made from dealcoholized wine is closer to the roots of a company with this history than it would be for any beverage corporation.
The bottle for celebrations with drivers and for everyone who wants to toast and stay sober
The alcohol-free Pêche Rouge is the bottle we recommend if someone is also thinking of those who are staying sober for a party – one bottle per six glasses for toasting. As a gift, it goes well with the Péche Rouge Liqueur Pralines, which bear the same peach in their name; all drinks can be found on our Wajos page. The bottle is under pressure, so store in a cool place and open carefully; once opened, it belongs in the refrigerator and should be consumed within three days. The Secco is not suitable for anyone who must avoid sulfites.
