Nutsler Cashew. Cashew spirit with a distinctive, nutty note – the most robust variety in the Nutsler family, 35% vol.
Nutsler Cashew is a spirit made from cashews, distilled in a small distillery in the Black Forest, with 35% vol in a 500 ml bottle. Less patisserie, more distilling craft: within the Nutsler family, the Cashew carries the most distinctive note and is reminiscent of classic spirits.
A cashew spirit by Nutsler is the variety for everyone who thinks of a proper schnapps when they hear "nut schnapps." The label reads "spirit" and includes the phrase "Made from fine cashew nuts from the cashew tree." The cashew nut reached Europe with the seafarers. Its mild, creamy, buttery taste was the basis for Nutsler; the variety was therefore called "The Creamy One" on an earlier website. While hazelnut, pistachio, and coconut are at home in the patisserie, the cashew is rarely used there according to the distillery. That is exactly what gives Nutsler Cashew its unique character.
Nutty in taste, finely structured in the finish
The Nutsler tastes like cashew with a nutty note and is more reminiscent of classic spirits than pastries. The distillery describes the variety as the most distinctive of the family, characterized by traditional distillation craft. The taste of the nut itself is unobtrusive, the cashew brings a creamy base. Layered over this is the nutty side that defines the schnapps and distinguishes it clearly from the other Nutsler varieties.
The distillation process creates a nuanced schnapps with a finely structured, alcoholic finish. The cheerful sweetness that hazelnut or coconut bring is stepped back here. Those looking for a sweet nut liqueur for dessert will be less happy with this variety.
As a shot, with a beer, or after a hearty meal
You drink it neat. That is how Nutsler recommends its varieties: as a shot, with a beer, or after a meal. A small schnapps glass is sufficient. The distillery does not specify a serving temperature; try it at room temperature and slightly chilled.
Because it tastes less like dessert, it pairs well with savory dishes. Think of a Sunday roast, a snack platter with strong cheese, or a dark beer in the evening. This is a spirit with 35% vol; sale is permitted from the age of 18. Note for allergy sufferers: Nutsler Cashew is made from cashew nuts, and cashew nuts are considered tree nuts.
Our tip: Place the Cashew among fruit brandies at your next spirits tasting evening. In a direct comparison, you will notice how close it is to classic distillation craft and yet how differently the nut tastes.
From the custom-built copper still in the Black Forest
Nutsler Cashew is created in the copper still that distiller Bernd Schrempp built himself during his classic apprenticeship in the Black Forest. According to Nutsler, the craft of fruit distilling has been passed down from generation to generation there for over three hundred years. The recipes were developed in Berlin, together with bartenders and restaurateurs and through many tastings. Hence the motto on every label: "Heartcrafted in the Black Forest. Tasted in Berlin."
The brand belongs to Nutsler Spirituosen GmbH from Schutterwald in the Ortenau region, on the market since 2019. The team has consciously specialized entirely on the nut in all its forms and wants to adapt traditional tastes to modern times. The Cashew shows the traditional side of this goal. It is the variety where the art of distilling is most clearly tasted, while the nut still remains recognizable.
For spirit lovers who find other nut schnapps too sweet
The cashew spirit is suitable for everyone who likes classic spirits and is curious about nuts. It especially appeals to those who are less fond of the sweetness of other nuts. As a gift for schnapps connoisseurs, it is an unusual choice. Those who prefer to discover the softer side should reach for the Hazelnut spirit with its nougat notes. You can find all varieties on our Nutsler page.
The Cashew is not suitable for those who expect marzipan or nougat in their glass. The Hazelnut and the Pistachio spirit with their light marzipan note are intended for that. Place the varieties side-by-side, and you will quickly notice how differently a nut can taste in a glass.
Cashew with a nutty note and 35% vol from the copper still in the Black Forest – the cashew spirit for all those who prefer their nut schnapps served the classic way.
