DSM No. 960 Limoncello. Limoncello made from organic lemons from the Amalfi Coast, only the peel used in neutral alcohol, 29% vol – prepared in Berlin.
DSM No. 960 Limoncello is a lemon liqueur from the Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur in Berlin: the finely peeled zest of freshly harvested organic lemons from the Sorrentine Amalfi Coast, extracted for several weeks in mild neutral alcohol and rounded off with sugar syrup, 29% vol, 350 ml in an apothecary bottle. No lemon juice, no added flavoring, no coloring – the color comes from the peel.
No. 960 Limoncello by DSM is a limoncello, a southern Italian-style lemon liqueur: lemon peels soak in alcohol until the essential oil is released, then sugar syrup is added. You know the ritual from your vacation – the small, ice-cold sip after a meal, the glass frosted, the limoncello from the freezer? That is exactly how the manufacturer recommends it, too. 960 is the distillate number used by DSM to organize their range; the liqueurs are numbered in the nine hundreds.
Lemon peel without bitterness, sweetness and aroma in balance
The limoncello tastes of fresh lemon peel, intense and sunny, with a sweetness that supports the aroma rather than masking it. The manufacturer describes the goal as follows: sweetness and lemon aroma should harmonize perfectly on the palate.
Contrary to popular belief, according to DSM, there is no lemon juice in a limoncello, only the very finely peeled zest. The aim is to include as little albedo – the white layer under the peel – as possible, because it contains bitter compounds. The peels soak for several weeks in the manufacturer's particularly mild neutral alcohol before the extract is rounded off with sugar syrup. The result is yellow and slightly cloudy, just as a limoncello should be. Anyone expecting a clear, sour lemon liqueur will find it rounded and zesty – the acidity of the juice is intentionally absent.
From the freezer into the iced glass, in small sips
The manufacturer's serving recommendation is the Italian one: as an aperitif or digestif, ice-cold. For this, the limoncello is placed in the freezer and the glass – such as a champagne flute – is kept in the freezer until it is covered with a layer of ice.
Then, drink in small sips and exhale through the nose; according to DSM, this is how the aroma and aftertaste best unfold. And, as the manufacturer writes: avanti, finish it before it gets warm. In addition, it fits into cocktails, for example with Prosecco and soda as a Limoncello Spritz, and with desserts like panna cotta or lemon tart. With 29% vol, it is a spirit for ages 18 and up.
Our tip: Keep the bottle in the freezer permanently – at 29% vol, the liqueur remains liquid, becomes slightly syrupy, and is always ready for visitors.
Lemons from the Amalfi Coast, prepared in Berlin-Marzahn
The organic lemons arrive fresh from the harvest on the Sorrentine Amalfi Coast at the Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur in Berlin. There, they are peeled by hand, just like the house's citrus spirits: only the outermost peel, no albedo.
The distillery was founded in 2017 in Berlin by Tim Müller and pharmacist Dr. Konrad Horn, who developed the recipes; the label reads "According to the original recipe by Dr. Horn". Production is carried out by hand and in small batches in a listed brick building in Berlin-Marzahn, and each bottle carries its batch number. Since December 2025, Bjarne Henning Hutmacher has continued to run the distillery with the existing team; the limoncello remains part of the assortment.
For Italy vacationers, digestif drinkers, and as a gift from the freezer
The limoncello is the bottle for anyone who wants to bring their vacation on the Amalfi Coast home. It is a liqueur made from real peel rather than lemon flavoring. It suits a summer evening, as the conclusion to a pasta meal, and as a gift that goes straight into the freezer.
Spicy rather than lemony is the Ginger Liqueur No. 925, and the Tarocco Blood Orange Spirit No. 125 is the dry citrus alternative from the same distillery. You can find all bottles on our DSM page. The limoncello is not suitable for those who want to drink it at room temperature in a large glass – it is made for the small, ice-cold glass.
