Wajos Confetti Linguine. Durum wheat linguine in five colors from bell pepper, beetroot, spinach, turmeric and squid ink – the pasta that looks like a party on the plate.
Wajos Confetti Linguine are colorful linguine made from durum wheat semolina, colored with bell pepper, beetroot, spinach, turmeric and squid ink, 250 g from Wajos in Dohr on the Moselle. No noodles with artificial colors, no egg noodles from the refrigerated shelf, no children's pasta with flavorings, but simple linguine whose color comes from vegetables and ink. Contains gluten and squid.
Confetti Linguine by Wajos are, for us, the pasta for the day a child has a birthday and wishes for noodles – as always. The pot boils, the linguine lands on the plate in red, orange, green, yellow and black, and suddenly an everyday meal is a birthday dinner, even though the exact same thing was cooked as always. The colors come from bell pepper, beetroot, spinach, turmeric and squid ink, and they remain visible even after cooking. The sauce can be simple: butter and parmesan are enough, because the pasta itself is the show.
Durum wheat bite, vegetable color, barely any taste
The linguine are flat, narrow noodles made from durum wheat semolina, with the bite that Italian dried pasta has. The taste of the coloring agents is subtle: the black stripes taste slightly of the sea, the red and green ones taste hardly any different from light-colored noodles – the color is the main thing, the vegetable flavor is secondary. Anyone relying on intense flavor will be disappointed; anyone who wants a pasta that stands out on the plate and otherwise behaves like pasta has come to the right place. It should be noted: due to the squid ink, these noodles are not suitable for vegetarians – in that case, the Heart Pasta by Wajos, colored with tomato and beetroot instead of ink, is the better choice.
With butter and parmesan, with a light sugo, in salads and for guests
Cook the pasta in plenty of salted water until al dente and keep the sauce light so that the colors remain visible: butter, parmesan and pepper; olive oil with garlic and lemon; cream with peas and ham. A red sugo covers the colors, but still tastes good – it works just as well for children who want tomato sauce. Cold, the linguine make a pasta salad that is the first to run out at a buffet, and as a side dish to fried salmon or shrimp, they look intentional, even though they were just boiled. They are not suitable for casseroles that stay in the oven for a long time – the colors will disappear under the cheese and sauce there.
Our tip: Confetti Linguine with two tablespoons of Lemon Infused Olive Oil, parmesan and pepper – five minutes, a plate that children will want to photograph.
Pasta from the assortment of a Moselle manufacturer
Wajos is a gourmet manufacturer in Dohr near Cochem on the Moselle that carries around 900 items and produces most of them itself; the pasta complements the sugos, oils and cremas for the pasta dish. The name stands for Walter Josef Oster, founder of a liqueur factory from a winemaking family in Ediger-Eller with 15 generations of viticulture. From the 2000s onwards, his son Peter Oster and Ulf Schwichtenberg turned it into a brand with over 80 employees and stores throughout Germany.
The pasta for children's birthdays, gift baskets and pasta nights with guests
The Confetti Linguine are for families with children who could eat pasta every day, for gift baskets that should contain something colorful alongside sugo and oil, and for anyone who wants to surprise guests with little effort. As a set, they go well with the Sugo alle Olive or the Rainbow Tagliatelle, their wider sister; all pasta can be found on our Wajos page. Stored in a dry and dark place, they last a long time; 250 grams are enough for two to three portions. They are not suitable for anyone who expects a vegetable taste from colorful pasta – here, the visual appeal is what counts.
Five colors from vegetables and ink, durum wheat in the bite – the linguine from Wajos that turns a pasta night into a birthday celebration for us.
