Wajos Chamomile, Ginger & Lemongrass - Tonic Syrup. Floral, slightly spicy and bitter – the tonic syrup that turns mineral water into tonic and gin into an unusual gin and tonic.

Wajos Chamomile, Ginger & Lemongrass - Tonic Syrup is a syrup for making a quinine-based soft drink, made from invert sugar and glucose syrup, citric acid, and natural aromas of chamomile, ginger, and lemongrass, 200 ml from Dohr on the Moselle. Not a ready-made tonic, not a tea syrup, not a ginger shot, but a concentrate that you dilute with water yourself. Vegan.

Chamomile, Ginger & Lemongrass - Tonic Syrup from Wajos is the answer to the shelf full of tonic bottles left half-empty in the fridge after a party. One syrup weighs 200 grams, takes up hardly any space, and makes as much tonic as you need at the time – whether for a glass or a carafe. And it tastes different from supermarket tonic: chamomile is an unusual choice for a bitter drink; it’s floral and soft, and with ginger and lemongrass, it becomes something reminiscent of tea that is still bitter enough for gin.

Chamomile upfront, ginger for warmth, quinine for bitterness at the finish

The syrup is thick and sweet when pure; it only unfolds when mixed with sparkling water. Then the chamomile comes first – floral, honey-like, like a tea you drink cold. The ginger sits behind it as a gentle warmth instead of heat. The lemongrass adds a lemony freshness that remains mild, and right at the end comes the quinine bitterness that defines a tonic. To be honest: the flavor comes from natural aromas rather than chamomile flowers or ginger root in the syrup, and sugar is the main ingredient – 60 grams per 100 milliliters, and accordingly less in the finished glass. This syrup is not suitable for those expecting a classic, clearly bitter tonic – in that case, the Pink Grapefruit Tonic Syrup is a better fit.

With water, with gin, in summer with ice and cucumber

A splash of syrup in a glass, top up with cold sparkling water, stir – how much is a matter of taste; start with a little and add more as needed. Served over ice with a slice of cucumber or a piece of ginger, it makes a non-alcoholic aperitif. With gin, it turns into a gin and tonic that tastes of chamomile and ginger: four centiliters of gin, syrup, ice, soda, and a sprig of rosemary. It also works well with vodka or a dry white wine as a spritz. A carafe for guests can be mixed in a minute. The syrup is not suitable for coffee, tea, or as a sweetener in desserts – the bitterness is out of place there. Store in a dry, dark place; explicitly not in the refrigerator.

Our tip: Summer Gin, chamomile syrup, soda, and a slice of cucumber – the gin and tonic we mix in the garden while it’s still light out.

From the business that started with liqueur on the Moselle

At Wajos, tonic syrups stand next to the oldest branch of the house. The liqueur distillery, which Walter Josef Oster founded in the 1980s next to his family's winery in Ediger-Eller, was the beginning of the brand. Peter Oster and Ulf Schwichtenberg developed this in Dohr near Cochem into a company with over 80 employees, its own stores, and around 900 products – from gin to the syrups that go with gin, all tested in their own laboratory.

The syrup for gin lovers, for guests who drink non-alcoholic, and for the home bar

This syrup is for everyone who has a little bar at home and likes to vary their tonic. It is a gift for gin drinkers who already have a gin, and for people who want to stay non-alcoholic while still having something special in their glass. 200 milliliters are enough for many glasses. All varieties, including Rhubarb, Apple & Thyme, can be found on our Wajos page. The syrup is not suitable for anyone avoiding quinine or high sugar – it is a tonic, and tonic is both.

Was Wajos anders macht
