Wajos Grill Pepper. One quarter pepper, salt, garlic, rosemary and pink peppercorns – the seasoning blend that replaces salt and pepper at the grill in a single jar.
Wajos Grill Pepper is a pepper-salt blend consisting of 25.2 percent pepper, salt, garlic, 4 percent pink peppercorns, onions, rosemary, thyme, lemon peel and herbs, 70 g in a jar, from Dohr on the Moselle. Not a pure pepper for the mill, not a spicy steak pepper with chili, not a sweet rub – but a mild seasoning blend for meat, fish and vegetables from the grill. Vegan.
Grill Pepper from Wajos solves the problem of the three jars: salt, pepper mill, and the herbs you always forget at the grill and then have to fetch from the kitchen while the steak is already on. Here, everything is in one jar – salt and pepper as the base, garlic and onion added, rosemary and thyme for the herbal note, lemon peel for freshness and pink peppercorns that make the pepper fruity. One reach, one sprinkle, done. For those who prefer to season at the grill with one hand while keeping the other on the tongs.
Mild-fruity pepper, distinct salt, herbs and lemon in the background
The order on the ingredients list tells you how the blend tastes: salt is in first place; at 34 grams per 100 grams, that is one third of the jar. Then pepper, a good quarter, which brings warmth instead of biting heat. The pink peppercorns, often called "pink pepper" or "false pepper," are botanically something different than pepper: fruity, resinous and slightly sweet – they take the harshness out of the blend. Garlic, onion, rosemary, thyme and lemon peel lie underneath like a ready-made marinade in dry form. Maltodextrin and a little sugar are also included, which you should be aware of. For those looking for pure pepper for the mill, this blend is not suitable – in that case, Tellicherry Pepper is the choice. Those who like it spicier should take the Steak Pepper with chili.
On steak, chicken, salmon and grilled vegetables – before grilling rather than after
The blend belongs on the meat before grilling: brush steak, pork neck chops or chicken legs lightly with oil, sprinkle half a teaspoon per portion and let sit for ten minutes. Because salt is included, additional salt is unnecessary – this is the most common mistake the first time. For salmon or trout, a pinch is enough; the lemon peel goes particularly well there. On zucchini, bell peppers and corn on the cob with olive oil, the blend becomes a vegetable seasoning; on potato wedges from the oven, it acts as a replacement for rosemary salt. It also works in the pan, for fried potatoes or scrambled eggs. It is not suitable for long marinades with acid – the salt will draw moisture out of the meat. And anyone seasoning with it afterwards who has already salted beforehand will quickly have too much salt on their plate.
Our tip: The blend on the meat, then a spoonful of herb butter on top after grilling – the blend for that, the Herb Butter Blend, also comes from Wajos, and both together make our steak dinner with minimal effort.
Mixed on the Moselle, in a business that prefers to make things itself
The blend is produced in Dohr near Cochem, where Wajos manufactures most of its approximately 900 items itself and tests them in its own laboratory. The company emerged from the Oster family winery in Ediger-Eller – 15 generations of winemakers, followed in the 1980s by the liqueur manufactory of Walter Josef Oster, whose initials form the name. His son Peter Oster and Ulf Schwichtenberg run the business today with over 80 employees. Mixing spices themselves instead of buying them in is part of this principle.
The jar for the grill summer and for everyone who wants one seasoning for everything
The Grill Pepper is the blend we recommend when someone wants just a good salt-and-pepper jar with a little extra, rather than rubs and sauces. 70 grams is enough for a summer of grilling every week. As a gift, it fits well in a grill package with the One For All Rub; all grill spices are listed on our Wajos page. Store in a cool, dark place and close the lid after each use. The Grill Pepper is not suitable for those who need to season with low salt – one third salt remains one third salt, no matter how sparingly you sprinkle.
Pepper, salt, pink peppercorns and herbs in one jar – the pepper-salt blend from the Moselle for everyone who wants to reach for just one thing at the grill.
