Conversation with Kerstin Uhlenbusch, founder of Manufaktur U
Hello Kerstin, thank you for taking the time. Could you briefly introduce yourself and your company?
Kerstin: Of course, I am happy to be here. I had the idea for Manufaktur U — a company that specializes in handmade gourmet-quality soups. Today, I run it together with my husband Stephan — a true family business. Our approach is to create traditional recipes with a modern twist, while always prioritizing sustainability and local products.
How did you come up with the idea to start a soup manufactory?
Kerstin: I have always enjoyed cooking — especially soups, because to me, they embody warmth, comfort, and conviviality. When I realized that there were hardly any soups on the market that actually tasted homemade, the idea was born. We only put what we would eat ourselves into our jars.
What sets your soups apart?
Kerstin: We cook every soup just like at home: letting them simmer for a long time, honest ingredients, no flavor enhancers or artificial flavorings. Our stocks are homemade and steeped for hours. You can taste that — every single component comes into its own.
Which soups are particularly popular?
Kerstin: The potato soup is a real classic, as are the tomato soup and the goulash soup. In the cold season, our game and Maultaschen soups are especially in demand. But even the more unusual varieties like our porcini mushroom cream soup have their loyal fans.
