Dr. Jaglas is a specialist in herbal elixirs and an expert in the world of bitters. For decades, the pharmacist family has used an old monastery recipe as their foundation, where the balanced ratio of individual ingredients is particularly important. Christina inherited her passion for herbalism from her great-grandfather and runs the manufactory today. She prefers enjoying a Negroni with Dr. Jaglas Artichoke Elixir and their house-made gin. On the occasion of Negroni Week 2022, she shares a secret tip for her own personal twist with us.
Christina, what is your classic Negroni recipe and why does the aroma of your Dr. Jaglas Dry GIN-seng pair so well with it?
I am a huge aperitif fan, and alongside our non-alcoholic Hibiscus Spritz, a Negroni is a must. For my classic Negroni recipe, I use our Dr. Jaglas Dry GIN-seng because it gives the cocktail a particularly intense herbal note. I replace Campari with Dr. Jaglas Artichoke Elixir. This maintains the typical bittersweet Negroni taste, but it is not quite as sweet as the original recipe.
What is your personal Negroni twist?
My personal secret tip: add a small splash of mezcal. This gives the Negroni a mature, slightly smoky note on the finish. Another exciting Negroni variation is the Dr. Jaglas Maca Ginseng Negroni.
