Apple and pear juice from Swabian meadow fruit meet grape juice from Müller-Thurgau, Kerner, and Portugieser, refined with spices. 0.0% alcohol, 750 ml, EU organic and vegan. Not a pure grape juice, not a sparkling wine – a composition for the well-laid table.

<!--nl--

Cuvée No. 9 by Jörg Geiger is called "Bio Cuvée No. 9" by the producer and is one of the manufactory’s numbered cuvées. These cuvées are independent compositions that Jörg Geiger has developed for upscale gastronomy and menu pairing. The first one, No. 7, was created in 2009. Each number represents a unique blend of juices, herbs, and spices, carbonated and without fermentation, meaning 0.0% alcohol. No. 9 contains 25 percent apple juice and 40 percent grape juice from three grape varieties: 15 percent Müller-Thurgau, 15 percent Kerner, and 10 percent Portugieser. Added to this are pear juice and spices. Müller-Thurgau and Kerner are white grape varieties, while Portugieser is a red one – together, they give the cuvée its grape fruitiness.

Taste

On the nose, No. 9 shows lush pear-grape fruitiness, complemented by fresh hints of white blossoms. Beneath this lie subtly nutty notes, which the producer describes as hazelnuts and foliage – an autumnal undertone beneath the bright fruit.

On the palate, it is balanced: pear-fruity sweetness meets a mild, sparkling acidity. The finish is long, with mildly earthy notes. The three grape varieties give it its grape character, and the apple provides freshness. With 11.8 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters from apple, grape, and pear, it is fruit-forward and soft. Those looking for a tart, dry meal companion will find it too sweet.

Usage

The cuvée should be served well chilled at 8 to 10 °C in a sparkling wine glass. The producer recommends it with Asian cuisine, especially sushi and sashimi. Appetizers with leaf salads and cream cheese also pair well. For dessert, it accompanies berry-fruit desserts and pastries.

The mild acidity and grape fruitiness can handle soy sauce, pickled ginger, and a bit of wasabi, while the glass remains balanced. It brings fruit to cream cheese with salad, and acts as a sparkling accompaniment to Sunday berry cake, replacing coffee.

Our tip: Host a sushi night at home and chill a bottle of No. 9 instead of green tea. The grape fruitiness and floral notes suit the rice, and the carbonation refreshes between bites.

Origin

The Jörg Geiger manufactory is located in Schlat at the foot of the Swabian Alb. Jörg Geiger is a trained chef and took over his parents' inn, Lamm, in 1997 at the age of 22. In 1998, he began working with the "Champagner Bratbirne" (pear variety), and in 2003, he bottled his first PriSecco.

The raw material is Swabian meadow fruit: old, often tart apple and pear varieties from traditional local orchards, supplied by regional farmers. The apple and pear juice in No. 9 are made from these. All ingredients are EU organic certified, control body DE-ÖKO-006. According to the producer, the organic products are also vegan. The cuvées are bottled depending on the season of the ingredients and are therefore only available for a limited time. When No. 9 is in stock, it is worth buying a second bottle for your supply. All steps from delivery to bottling take place in the manufactory.

For whom

No. 9 is the bottle for anyone who enjoys drinking something sparkling and fruity with their meal and values organic and vegan products.
